Nominations are due by 5 p.m. Friday, April 19, 2019. Please use the online form (www.asd103.org) to submit your nomination. A selection committee will review the nominations and make a recommendation to the School Board. The recipient will be recognized at the May 16, 2019 board meeting.

Friends of Skagit Beaches - Plankton of the Land - April 12: Plankton are the foundation of life in the ocean. Is there an analogy in terrestrial ecosystems? Yes there is! In the Pacific Northwest, the foundation of terrestrial ecosystems is the “Stegnon”, the layer of organic life just above, within, and below the soil of the forest floor. Here in the Stegnon, mosses, lichens, and fungi play an important role in forest ecosystems. Naturalist and author of The Boundary Layer, Kem Luther, PhD, Vancouver Island, will present a look at the environmental services these inhabitants of the Stegnon provide as they process and convert organic matter into nutrients in a form usable by other organisms. Friday, April 12, 2019. 7:00pm - 8:30pm, 1601 R St., NW Educational Services District Bldg., Anacortes. Sponsored by Friends of Skagit Beaches, the lecture is free and open to all ages.
