Hawk Highlights
January 21, 2024
Decatur Middle School Families,
Last week we began our no-cell-phone-throughout-the-building policy (all cell phones in lockers!). I just want to say a huge THANK YOU to all the parent support we received for this initiative. With relatively few exceptions, the rollout was well received by students, too! We will continue this initiative to reduce distractions throughout the school. Please remind students that the following actions will be taken by teachers and administrators if needed:
1st Offense - Teacher confiscates phone until end of period. Student puts phone in locker at passing.
2nd Offense - Phone kept in Student Services until the end of day.
3rd Offense - Phone picked up by parent.
Presentation of certificates for Students of the Month (December) was given Friday during lunch. See below for just a few pictures of the students that were awarded.
Our 8th grade students have picked their communities for next year. Announcement for assignments will follow later this month. Eighth graders who did not pick their communities will have follow up conversations with their school counselor.
Student not feeling well? Did you know that students have access to a FREE virtual clinic? Scroll down for more information.
Grades 5-8 BOWLING call out to be held February 4th. Scroll down for more information.
I hope everyone has stayed warm this weekend. We'll see the students in the morning!
Go HAWKS!
Quick Dates to Note

WIDA/ACCESS Testing
Did you know that almost 25% of our students speak a language other than English as their first language (English Language Learners - ELL)? This week begins WIDA/ACCESS testing for those students. This assessment is given to those students as a way for our school and district to measure understanding of, and growth in, the English language in the categories of Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing. Students should come to school with devices fully charged.
