Bi-Monthly Principal Newsletter ~ Week of March 21, 2021

A Message from Mrs. Lucas
Dear Parents,
We are just three weeks away from Spring Break!
Here are few helpful reminders as we march along through Trimester Three:
1. Our parking lot is coned off in the afternoon to allow for transportation to get our student buses into the lot to pick up students. Thank you for obeying the cones and not blocking the lanes so that our transportation team can get safely to their pick-up spot.
2. Students should arrive no later than 7:45 am daily to avoid being tardy for class. When students are tardy, it is a disruption to the class and also makes their day begin in a rush, often causing students to feel uneasy. Please ensure your child is arriving to school with plenty of time to line up with their class when gates open at 7:35 am.
3. Trimester 2 Report Cards - T2 student report cards are now available in your Aeries Parent Portal. Please log in to see your child's report card. It is housed under the Report Card History link on the right side of the screen.
4. Brookhaven Open House - we will hold our annual Open House on Thursday, April 7th. It will be in person this year! More information to come but please hold this evening for our General Association PTA Meeting beginning at 5:45 pm at the lunch tables and then Open House in classrooms from 6:30-7:30 pm. Please plan to join us at the PTA meeting for the HSA Awards ceremony as well.
Lastly, I want to thank you all, and our fabulous PTA, for our very successful Brookhaven Boosterthon Fund Run! It was a great success! As a school community, we raised over $20K for our school and our amazing PTA helped host our colorful and fun jogathon event day on March 11th! We truly have a special community and your support helps our students continue to learn and grow! THANK YOU!
Warmly,
Julie

Attendance and Health Reminders
- School starts at 7:50 each day and students are expected to be on their assigned playground by 7:45 am. We close the gates promptly at 7:50 am each day. Students arriving after that time will need to go through the office to check in prior to going to their classroom and will be marked tardy. Please plan accordingly each morning to ensure that students arrive on time, no later than 7:45 am, ready to learn. As a reminder, the gates open at 7:35 each morning.
- Students should have all of the materials necessary for each day including homework, lunches, water bottles and, if applicable, their musical instrument. Students are learning about responsibility and accountability when it comes to these items, so we encourage parents to NOT drop off forgotten items. All students are able to receive a school lunch for free; they just need to order one with the daily lunch count. If homework or instruments are forgotten, it is a valuable lesson learned for students that, typically, doesn't happen again.
- If your child is sick or has symptoms of Covid, they should not attend school
- You must call the school attendance line to report all absences
- Please leave specific details of your child's symptoms and we'll notify you of their return date
- Please review the Student Symptom Tree to help guide you with questions regarding Covid symptoms and next steps
We appreciate everyone's diligence in completing the daily "Shared Responsibility" in checking for symptoms and keeping students home when they are ill. Together we'll make it through the year in keeping everyone healthy and well.
Daily Protocols
On-Going Mitigating Measures
- Shared Responsibility Symptom Screening should be done daily prior to the arrival of school. If your child has COVID symptoms, they must stay home.
- Handwashing stations are located around campus and hand sanitizer is located at the entrance of every classroom.
- Good hygiene habits will be taught and encouraged.
