Indian Creek PK News
December 12 to December 16, 2016
This week in Pre-K
We will be working with rhyming words. Your child will need to be able to make a rhyme. If we say "star" your child will need to give us another rhyming word such as tar, car, far, and jar. We will start segmenting words into syllables and working with compound words. If we put them together we will also be taking words apart. Here is an example: the compound word is cupcake- if we take it apart you have cup and cake- this is also a two syllable word. We have already been exposing your children to syllables by clapping out their names. They should already know if their name is 1, 2,3 or 4 claps.
We will also be doing a lot of name writing- this is a task for our 3 year old and our 4 year old students. Each student should know how to write their name by the end of pre-k. This is using both upper case and lower case correctly.
We will also be reviewing counting one to nine objects in a set. We will focus on all numerals 1 to 9, sorting objects based on attributes (color, size, texture and shape). We will reviewing all the shapes we have learned to this date.
We will be doing some science related investigations with energy- we will be doing activities with light, heat, and electricity. Be prepared to be amazed. You can help at home by pointing out things like holiday lights, fires in the fireplace, doing simple things like turning out the lights in rooms.
The next phase of skills testing will happen when we return from Winter Break. This is why it is important for your to continue with the learning during the break.
Angel Tree
Hello Falcon Families! Our Angel Tree is up! It is located in the front of the school outside the office. The angel tree program is intended to help families in our school celebrate the holidays by providing children with gifts they would otherwise not receive. Please help make their holidays a little brighter by participating in this program.
If you would like to participate, please select an ornament off the tree and let the front office know the letter and number at the top of the ornament you chose.
Please return the gifts wrapped with the ornament attached to the present by Friday, December 19th.
Thank you for all that you do to help the students and families of Indian Creek Elementary!

Weather and Clothing
When we left school it was still in the 80's. Now it is wet and in the 30's. Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately. If you send sweaters, jackets, or coats- please make sure you have written your child’s name on the tag or in the article of clothing. We are still planning on going outside unless it is raining or snowing. We will use our best judgement on outside play and follow our district guidelines for outside play. We will still have time to do gross motor play. It will be in the classroom or in our motor lab using parachutes, jumping horses, balls and other items.
Cold and Flu season is HERE!
Your child’s health is of great importance. It is that time of year when colds, flu and viruses run wild in schools, churches, and other public places. We will take every precaution to have a healthy and safe environment. Please consider getting a flu shot for yourself and your child. Having the flu is not any fun and can be life threatening for young children.
We would like you to consider keeping your child home if they have fever, diarrhea and vomiting. It is requested that students be symptom free for 24 hours before returning to school. Please don't give your child a fever reducer and send them to school. Our bodies create a fever to fight viruses and to give us a warning that we are sick. When you send a child to school sick you will be impacting 20 plus families in addition to the teachers and their families. Teachers don't like missing days of school due to illness.
If your child becomes ill while at school, we will take them to the school nurse. The nurse will evaluate your child and contact you to let you know if you need to pick your child up. Please keep in mind the only person on campus that can give any medication is our school nurse.
