From the Principal...
On our January 7th inservice day our staff participated in a poverty simulation in the morning, and a trauma informed presentation which were both led by Rebecca Lewis-Pankratz. Rebecca works for ESSDACK as a professional learning consultant. She did an amazing job of sharing and giving our staff a first hand learning experience. You can find out more about Rebecca at: https://www.essdack.org/rebecca
The January 21st inservice gave teachers a chance to select various learning experiences to help improve classroom instruction. Our keynote speaker was James Moffett, an elementary principal from Derby, Kansas. James shared his story and also helped us gain a better understanding of the effect of trauma on our students, and how we can be more effective educators by building positive relationships with students and other staff members. You can learn more about James by following him on Twitter: @DHEPrincipal

TIPS TO AVOID GETTING OR SPREADING THE FLU
Take everyday preventive actions to stop the spread of germs.
- Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
- While sick, limit contact with others as much as possible to keep from infecting them.
- If you are sick with flu-like illness, CDC recommends that you stay home for at least 24 hours after your fever is gone except to get medical care or for other necessities. (Your fever should be gone for 24 hours without the use of a fever-reducing medicine.)
- Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. After using a tissue, throw it in the trash and wash your hands.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand rub.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth. Germs spread this way.
- Clean and disinfect surfaces and objects that may be contaminated with germs like flu

CMS Staff Member - Jacqueline Nutsch
Hi! I’d like to introduce you to me, I’m Jacqueline Nutsch and I teach sixth grade math at Concordia Middle School! I also coached freshman volleyball, and I work for the Kansas Reading Roadmap After School program. This is my tenth year of teaching. I taught first and third grade in Salina, and then taught second grade for seven years at Fairfield Elementary, which is west of Hutchinson about 30 miles or so. I also coached junior high volleyball there, and worked for the Kansas Reading Roadmap After School and Summer School programs.
I was born and raised in Belleville, Kansas, and I graduated from Belleville High School in 2004. I then attended High-Tech Institute in Kansas City for Massage Therapy, but decided I was capable of a more rigorous education, and transferred to Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas. I graduated with my Bachelor’s in 2009, and then decided to get my Master’s in Education from Baker University while teaching in Salina. I graduated from Baker in 2011.
Some of my most favorite things in this world are my parents, my four siblings and their spouses, my seven nieces and nephews, and my three fur-babies Kale, Konner, and Kleetus. I am not sure anything else surpasses my love for them! I like to keep busy by working on my house, reading, shopping, hanging out with friends and family, going to church, fishing, singing karaoke, laughing, cooking, sewing, dancing , and road trips.
I have known teaching was my destiny since I was a fourth grader, and I cannot think of any other career that would make my heart so happy! I love coming to work, seeing my students, and having fun while learning at the same time! My student’s constantly teach me new things, and make an impact on my life every day! Life is never boring as a teacher, each day is a new adventure, and I know I am so blessed to be a part of this school and community! Go Panthers!
