Read Across America Week

This week we celebrate national Read Across America Week with many exciting activities! Our library will be holding a school wide reading contest. The school will be divided up into three groups, K-2, 3-4, and 5-6. The class in each group that reads the most books over the next week will win a book party in the library with Ms. Lichtner and Mr. Smith, which promises to be fun! Any book you read outside of school counts, as does any book you read with an adult or an adult reads to you. Only the books you read between Saturday, February 28 through Friday, March 6 count though, so let’s get reading!
On Friday your child brought home this recording form, and I'm hoping you have already seen it and filled out some book names on it!

On Monday we will have a school-wide DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) activity and dress in Dr. Seuss colors, a themed Literary/Superhero dress up day on Friday, special guest readers throughout the week, and of course we'll be meeting with our buddy class for more fun activities! Language Arts

Our lesson 18 focus story is My Name is Gabriela. Our essential question is "What makes a character interesting?". Phonics skills this week are long e sound for y, changing y to i, and the verb be. We are working hard at learning how to write interesting fictional stories!
