Romona Review
11.17.17
From the Principal
This week, we completed our Romona R.O.C.K.S. project for Originality. All of our students read the book "Only One You" by Linda Kranz and painting their very own original rock. On Monday, we brought together all of the rocks and every mustang put their rock in our Romona ROCKS garden! Thank you to our art teacher, Mrs. Stevenson, for bringing this fabulous project to Romona and to all of the parent volunteers for helping us finish the project!
This week was also Book Week at Romona! On Tuesday, our students all had the opportunity to see author Candace Fleming speak. As the author of fabulous children's books such as "Muncha, Muncha, Muncha" and "Lowji discovers America," Mrs. Fleming was able to inspire our young writers by sharing her passion and process with them. A huge thank you to the PTA and the iGNITE Fund for providing this wonderful enrichment opportunity for our students.
Romona celebrated Book Week by dressing up everyday, reading silently in our PJs, and shopping at the Book Fair. Thank you to our librarian, Alicia Wiechert, and the PTA for making this such a fun week centered around books!
As we approach Thanksgiving, I want to let the Romona parent community know how thankful I am for all of you. Thank you for the snacks during conferences, for all of the support throughout the year, and for building strong home-school partnerships with all of us so that we can support your children.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving! We will see you on November 27th!
Cindy

Hearing & Vision Screenings
The state mandated grades for hearing screening at the elementary school level are kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade, students new to the district, and special education students. The state mandate for vision screening at the elementary school level is kindergarten, 2nd grade, students new to the district, and special education students. This vision screening is not a substitute for a complete eye and vision exam by an eye doctor. If your child has been seen by an eye doctor in the past 12 months or is currently under the care of an eye doctor and wears glasses, he/she will not be screened.
Children who fail two consecutive screenings, 10-14 days apart, of either vision or hearing will receive a referral letter with detailed instructions for next steps. If you have any questions, please contact our nurse, Mary Ann Roche, by phone at 847.512.6402 or via email at rochem@wilmette39.org.

DONATE TO IGNITE TODAY
Every student at Romona has access to innovative, hands-on programs that not only bring to life the curriculum taught in schools but helps build skill sets integral to future success like field trips, outside speakers and performances. What you might not know is that these programs are NOT paid for by the school district. They are funded by Romona families through IGNITE.
IGNITE is the Romona PTA's way to fund these enrichment activities for our students. It aims to enhance curriculum-based learning, build skills that drive characteristics of successful learners, and promote social and emotional awareness. Every dollar you donate goes directly back to your children and is tax deductible! If you haven't already donated, please consider doing so. IGNITE a passion for learning!
A TO Z & PTA MEMBERSHIP
Parents, want to stay involved in the PTA happenings at Romona Elementary? It is important to log into your A to Z account, verify your personal information and "opt in" to receiving PTA e-mails. For those of you who did not receive the initial e-mail, please contact our directory chair at directory@romonapta.org
We encourage all parents to verify their data to ensure that they can be easily contacted, but only paid PTA members will be able to view the entire directory and use it for looking up a student’s name and get GPS driving directions to their home, filtering students by class to get class or grade level lists, e-mailing, texting, or calling parents directly from the app as well as marking favorite contacts for easy access.
