August 2018 - Monthly Recap
Expect the Best, Expect Success!
It is a new school year and we are already moving in a very positive direction. The staff and students are getting acquainted, setting expectations and understanding the norms of the learning environment and getting into the curriculum.
This year, our theme is Expect the Best, Expect Success and we are encouraging you to join us. When we shift our thinking, our expectations, actions and outcomes also shift! What is your greatest hope for your child? What do you want to achieve? Let's make it happen together!
As always, we are proud to have your partnership and trust as we begin another school year designed to help your child to learn, grow and achieve self-sustaining success.
Thank You for Passing the Tax Rate Swap and Drop
On behalf of the Lancaster ISD School Board, Superintendent Elijah Granger and the district staff, we just want to say 'thank you' for choosing to make a difference in the lives of our Lancaster ISD students by supporting our recent Swap & Drop Tax Ratification Election.
As a parent, you are certainly a valued member of our community and it was great to see that you share our vision to continue the great work already in progress.
Your vote allows us to get additional and much-needed funding from the state NOT from the local tax payers. In fact, we are excited that by passing our Swap & Drop proposition, voters in the Lancaster community actually voted to DECREASE their school tax rate.
Through your support, Lancaster ISD is now able to gain $2 million in revenue from the state which we will use to continue to adequately fund student programs, including K-12 STEM initiatives, increase school safety and security, provide student transportation, retain and attract high-quality staff, and continue to upgrade technology.
For several years, we have worked to ensure that our students receive More Than a Diploma and plan to continue to excel.
Again, we thank you for your partnership, affirmation and showing of support.

Lancaster ISD Creates 529 Savings Plans for its students
Beginning this year, the Lancaster Independent School District will open 529 Savings Plans for all kindergartners enrolled by October 1. The accounts will be opened and administrated by Lancaster ISD, but parents will also be able to contribute to the account. Students will also have the opportunity, throughout the year, to participate in incentive programs to have more funding applied to their accounts.
The district is able to offer this opportunity this year by using the $50,000 award money from the recent selection of Lancaster ISD as the H-E-B Small District Excellence in Education Award winner.

Lancaster ISD is Making Major Academic Gains
For the fifth consecutive year, ALL of our Lancaster ISD campuses met or exceeded the state standard set by the Texas Education Agency. In this same time frame, we have received more than 130 Academic Distinctions and none of our campuses are on the state improvement required list.
Additionally, we are consistently outperforming charter schools. Our campuses collectively received 30 academic distinctions. This more than exceeds the combined total received by our local charters.
We offer the best possible experience for our students to excel, achieve and even succeed their own expectations. We are a strong district and the data proves it.
News From the College and Career Readiness Team...
Lancaster ISD High School Students Join the University of Texas On-Ramps Dual Credit Program
While the students are not necessarily enrolled in the University, the credits from the classes that they are taking are earned via the University Extension program within the TEXAS Extended Campus . The OnRamps students who earn college credit through the UT Austin college course will receive a college transcript along with separate high school credit and a high school transcript.
The OnRamps college course credit is transferable and accepted at any public university or college in Texas as well as many private and non-Texas institutions.
College Go Get It Week is September 17 -21
September 17-21, 2018 is College Go Get It Week in Lancaster ISD. The week will be devoted to giving all students in the district the opportunity to learn about post-secondary educational opportunities including college and universities, careers, the military, and career technical education. Information will be disseminated to encourage and motivate students to dream big with the understanding that they can become anything they desire if they work hard with intentional planning for their own success.
College Go Get It Week is consistent with our mission, vision, beliefs, and our mantra, “More Than a Diploma.”
All students and their parents are encouraged to attend the TACRO College Fair (6 PM to 8 PM) and come an hour early for the Parent Night Out meeting (5:30 PM to 6:30 PM) at Lancaster High School on Thursday, September 20, 2018.
Parents of High School Seniors - Top of the Year College Planning Checklist...
- Finalize Your College List and make plans to visit colleges as you narrow down the list.
- Find out a college’s actual cost. Once your senior has a list of a few colleges he or she is interested in, use the College Board’s Net Price Calculator together to find out the potential for financial aid and the true out-of-pocket cost— or net price—of each college.
- Encourage your child to meet with the college advisors and counselors. This year, he or she will work with the college center advisors to complete and submit college applications.
- Encourage your child to get started on applications early. He or she can get the easy stuff out of the way now by filling in as much required information on college applications as possible.
- Create a calendar with your child. This should include application deadlines and other important dates. Your child can find specific colleges’ deadlines in College Search.
- Help your child prepare for college admission tests. Many seniors retake college admission tests, such as the SAT, in the fall. Learn more about helping your 12th-grader prepare for admission tests
- Help your child find and apply for scholarships. He or she can find out about scholarship opportunities from the school counselor. Your high school student will need to request and complete scholarship applications and submit them on time.
