History of Mount Rushmore
In 1927, Sculptor Gulzun Borglum began sculpting the faces of U.S presidents Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, and Theodore Roosevelt. About 400 completed the Sculpture in 1941

- The workers who built Mount Rushmore removed 450,000 tons of rock in order to create the heads on Mt. Rushmore.
- In the original design the four presidents were supposed to show the waist up.

Association with Native Americans
In treaty of 1868 the U.S government promised the Indian Tribe Sioux land near Mount Rushmore. The promise lasted only until gold was found on their land. Soon tourist and prospectors took over their land
