Season's Greetings from the Library!
It's that time of year again... time to figure out what to buy that hard-to-shop-for tween. Among the shiny new electronics and gift cards, don't forget to include a great book or two. Here's some recommendations of some great new titles.
We have been very busy in the library re-organizing and imagineering our new Makerspace. As we begin to put items on shelves, we would love donations from students and their families for materials such as:
- Duct Tape/Masking Tape/Scotch Tape
- Blocks & Lego
- Fabric, Felt & Ribbon
- Boxes of straws & toothpicks
- String, wire, and fishing line
- New bottles of glue/glue sticks
- Craft/Popsicle sticks
Thank you so much for helping us MAKE our dreams come true!
What is Bibliotherapy?
Simply, it's finding a book to help us feel better. Our children need to know they are not alone and, sometimes, the right books is the perfect remedy for stress, loneliness, feelings of alienation, or just a really bad day.
If your child is feeling .... sad
A 12-year old girl, feeling sad and lost in a changing world, tries to escape to a fantasy world, only to realize that the true escape lies within herself.
If your child is feeling ... different
Thirteen-year-old Mia sees the world differently than her peers and no one quite believes or understands her ways of seeing.
If your child is feeling ... anxious
7th-grade Joseph struggles to cope with expectations in middle school until he joins the track team and finds that everyone, even champion runners, worry about keeping up.
If your child is feeling ... worried about their appearance.
Before she had an eating disorder, twelve-year-old Riley was many things: an aspiring artist, a runner, a sister, and a friend. If Riley wants her life back, she has to recover. Part of her wants to get better. As she goes to therapy, makes friends in the hospital, and starts to draw again, things begin to look up.
If you child is feeling ... anxious about friendships.
“In middle school, words aren’t just words. They can be weapons. They can be gifts. The right words can win you friends or make you enemies. They can come back to haunt you. Sometimes they can change things forever."
