Dear Anna Borba Families,
Every month our students focus on a character trait. They learn what the trait means and practice it in their everyday lives. For the months of December and January, our students are focusing on being inquisitive. An inquisitive learner asks questions and has a desire to learn more.
Here is how you can help your child at home:
Ask open ended questions that require more than a yes/no answer.
For example, instead of asking, "Did you have a good day?" (kids will answer, yes or no and move on)
ask, "Tell me one thing learned in Math today." and make sure they actually talk to you about what they learned.
Here are some other good questions to ask:
- What's one thing you learned today that you understand well? Explain it to me.
- Did you understand your Math lesson today? What questions do you need to ask your teacher to help you understand it better?
- What's one thing you'd like to learn more about? Why?
Remember, your students are very busy in school for 7 hours. They are learning a lot of new things every day. Make sure they share this with you. If you ask them what they did at school and they say "Nothing." it's simply not true.
It will help their learning for them to think about their day and talk about what they learned. Our brain remembers things better when we talk about it.
Happy New Year!

Introducing Borba Bonus Bucks!
Our students will earn bonus bucks for going above and beyond our school expectations (formally known as Gotcha's). They will be able to trade them in for prizes at our school AVID store. Ask your children if they've earned any Bonus Bucks and ask them to share the great things they are doing to earn these rewards.
