PBIS…Behavior Tracking Forms
In the last PBIS Newsletter, we talked about voice levels. Please continue to talk about Being Respectful, Being Safe and Being Responsible and how your child can continue to use these traits in their daily lives to help them to be more successful.
Thomas Jefferson Elementary School’s PBIS program teaches the following expectations to improve teaching and support positive student behaviors: Be Respectful, Be Responsible and Be Safe. Through the modeling of these behaviors, teachers, parents, and students create a social culture at Thomas Jefferson that encourages positive interactions, while at the same time discouraging problem behaviors. Our safe environment allows students to achieve academically and build positive relationships with each other and with adults.
The foundation of the PBIS approach:
· Teaching students the behaviors we expect to see
· Reminding them to use those behaviors
· Acknowledging positive behaviors
· Correcting negative behaviors through re-teaching
Re-teaching Expectations
Our school uses a form to track behavior. It is called the Behavior Tracking Form (BTF). This form will record behaviors that do not follow our classroom and school expectations of Being Respectful, Being Safe and Being Responsible. When problem behaviors occur, supervising staff members take the opportunity to re-teach appropriate behaviors for “Minor” behaviors. Once a specific behavior has been taught three times, and the behavior occurs again, a Behavior Tracking Form (BTF) is completed. Behaviors are categorized as “Minor” and “Major” based upon the frequency, intensity, and duration of the behaviors. All “Major” behaviors incidents are addressed with the building administrator. Parents are notified accordingly. Parents will be notified of a “minor” or “major” occurrence via phone call, email, the slip mailed home, or sent home with the child.
BTFs assist us in collecting data, highlighting the number of behavior incidents, and types of problem behaviors that are occurring. This information is used to proactively develop tools to teach positive choices to ALL students. BTFs are a communication tool between home and school and are meant to keep you informed of your child’s behavior at school. All behaviors documented on a BTF have been addressed at school by your child’s teacher or administrator, with the primary focus being on re-teaching desired behavior.
Box tops! Box tops! Box tops!
Box tops mean money for our school! Parents, please ask your friends, neighbors, and relatives to save box tops for our school. Currently, many grades are trying to collect box tops to help pay for end of year field trips. Box tops are also a great source of funds for new playground equipment. So please, SAVE, SAVE, SAVE! To be counted for this year, please send them in by May 1, 2019. The collection container is just inside the front door. Below this is a form that you can download and use. Additional Box Top forms are on the shelf by the front door. Thank you!
