Author Matthew Landis Visits Warwick

Big picture
There are a lot of things to like about Young Adult Author, Matthew Landis: he is an incredible 8th Grade Social Studies Teacher from Tamanend Middle School, he writes great books for our older students, he is funny, and has cool hair. But if you ask Mrs. Leatherbarrow what she thought was the best part about his presentation to 4th, 5th, and 6th graders this past Tuesday, she will undoubtedly say that Mr. Landis is a fearless model of learning through failure. As you can see in the photograph above, he shared that he had made numerous attempts at writing, experienced rejection and feedback, and persevered to achieve his goal of being a published author for kids. As he put it, "I stand here as an author today because I failed." Following his whole group presentation, Mr. Landis met with a small group of students who love writing and wanted to learn more from him about the writing process.

During his assembly presentation, Mr. Landis asked students if they enjoyed reading. He went on to offer a web resource that will help anyone find a book that they will love reading based on other books they love so far. The web resource is https://whatshouldireadnext.com/index.php. It is a great tool for everyone's reading journey. As many a school librarian will say, "If you don't love reading, you just haven't found the right book for you yet."

We thank Mr. Landis for sharing his love of books, writing, learning, and tacos! We thank Mrs. Chris Kehan, Warwick Librarian, and our PTO for providing the opportunity for our students to hear and learn from Mr. Landis!
