Here's What's on Top at Buena Vista - March 29, 2023
Note from the Principal
Greetings Buena Vista Parents,
It's been great having many of our parents and family members joining us for lunch in the breezeway this week. Thank you so much for coming for lunch even though we have not had the best weather these last two day. Tomorrow is supposed to bring drier weather, so hopefully we will be able to spread out a bit more at lunch and our students will get to enjoy some play time outside. Spring Break is fast approaching. Just a reminder that this Friday is a regular bell schedule for students.
Attendance is OUR Responsibility
Attendance is a parent and student responsibility. Let your child know that you think attending school daily is important. Show them you are interested in their school activities. Tell them that you want them to do well in school.
Book Fair and Lunch in the Breezeway
Our Scholastic Book Fair is currently happening. We have been having Lunch in the Breezeway going on all week. Tomorrow is the final day for our "grand" person (grandparent, parent, aunt, uncle, etc) to join their student for lunch. Here is our remaining schedule.
- Thursday, March 30: 2nd grade 11:45-12:30
- Thursday March 30: 5th Grade 12:20-1:05
I also want to send out a big thank Peggy Iyengar, our library/media specialist, and all of our PTA parent volunteers who have volunteered this week to put on an amazing Book Fair for our students.
Ramadan
Parents, for our students that are participating in fasting for Ramadan, I let you know that they have the option of going to the Wellness center to participate in quiet activities during our lunch time. Students that are fasting are always welcome in the office as well and after spring break, the library is another option. Please reach out to me directly if your child needs any support finding a separate space from our lunch room while fasting.
WCEF
Please take two minutes to complete the Walnut Creek Education Foundation's (WCEF TK-12) annual survey here. Your responses are completely anonymous, invaluable, and help our school and district. Thank you!
State Testing
When we return from Spring Break, students in 3rd-5th grades will take the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP). This will be the first time our 3rd graders take this assessment. Students have been practicing using the assessment platform, so that they are comfortable navigating the system. These assessments are another tool to give educators information about student progress and they help us identify areas where we can improve our teaching and support.
5th grades will take the CAST(Science portion) of our state testing on April 20th and 21st. 3rd-5th graders will test on April 24th-April 28th in English Language Arts and Math. It is important that students are at school each day during testing. Please ensure that they arrive at school on time and are well-prepared to do their best. (You can start by making sure they eat a great breakfast each morning.) Additionally, please make every effort to avoid scheduling appointments or other activities that would cause your child to miss school on these testing days.
To learn more about CAASPP testing please see this flyer.
It's a Great Day to be a Bulldog!
Respectfully,
