Soliciting Volunteers for the Spring Fair!
FROM MR. ORTMAN and MR. MURTHA
We are extremely grateful to have such supportive families among the Mill Creek Community. Part of that supportive is reflected in the high level of investment you have in your child(ren)'s school experience. We know that many of our parents work to stay connected with their child's education and well-being. One way many of you do this is by asking your child about their school day. It is a simple but effective way to open up communication and learn more about your child's experiences in the classroom and at school. However, depending on your particular child, getting them to share can have varied success.
For those who have more difficulty getting the school day conversation flowing at the dinner table, our incredible Student Services Counselor, Ms. Danielle Mackintosh, came across a series of questions to help prompt more robust school day conversations and sharing. While "How was your (school) day?" is an important question, we also know that some students are not as responsive to that particular question and others may need more specific questions in order to feel comfortable sharing, such as "What did you learn today?" or "What was your favorite part of the day?"
If you are having difficulty soliciting school day information from your child, or if you just need a change of pace in the questions you pose, check out some of the suggested school day discussion questions in the document below.
Thank you for your investment in your child and their school day. We appreciate you taking a few minutes each day to ask them about their school day. It is a small step that can have a big impact!
Have a wonderful weekend!

IMPORTANT MESSAGE about Personal Electronic Devices...
Teachers have noticed an increase in the amount of electronic devices, especially smart watches, being brought to school by students. In some cases, student personal electronic devices are becoming obtrusive to instruction, especially if alerts are set to go off throughout the school day. Considering this, we would ask the following:
- Please consider having your child keep their personal electronic devices at home.
- If you feel your child must bring their personal electronic device to school, please have them put it on a setting that blocks alerts during the school day. For instance, the newer versions of Apple Smart Watches have a Schooltime feature that allows parents to limit the watch’s functionality during the school day (some older versions, however, do not have this feature).
- Another option is to have your child keep their personal electronic device silenced and in a secure part of their bookbag during the school day.
Additionally, we cannot ensure that a student’s personal electronic device will not go lost or missing when it is brought to school.
Thank you for your understanding regarding and attention to this matter.
