Leader in Me - Put First Things First
November's Habit #3 – Put First Things First
Put First Things First means to decide what is most important and to take care of that first. Thinking about what needs to be done tomorrow or by the end of the week can be overwhelming, especially for children. Learning to think of which things are the most important and taking care of them first allows children (and adults) to be less stressed. If your child uses a planner at school, then he or she has a great organizational tool to Put First Things First in writing. By writing down his or her responsibilities and planning ahead, last-minute trips to the store, missed events, or missed homework are avoided. If your child does not use a planner, having a weekly log would also be helpful. This could simply be a piece of paper that is used each week. Modeling this behavior is one of the best ways to teach children.
Family Activities
1. Create a list of things your child needs to accomplish throughout a week. With your child, rank the tasks in importance. Then rewrite the list in order of importance. Use a planner or calendar to schedule time so that the important things are done first.
2. Role-play with your child about the consequences of forgetting to study for a math test. How will your child feel? What are the consequences? Then role-play how it will feel to be well prepared and get a great match score!
3. Encourage your child to design or decorate his or her own planner or weekly activity log

Trail signs and painting volunteers
We are looking for some parent volunteers to help with the signs, paint, and to complete the project. We will be installing signs and painting in the next couple of weeks. Please let the office know if you are willing or able to come and help out. We love our Horizon families and how much they support our school!
Flu Season Ahead
To stay healthy this season, increase hand washing, drink plenty of water, and consider getting the flu shot. We want to keep all our students and staff healthy this season. Please keep your child home if they are running a fever over 100.5 or vomiting in the last 24 hours. Please call 208-324-4841 to notify the school of your student's absence.
Cold Weather Is Here!
Brrr... It feels like winter outside and we have had our first snow storm of the year! If the temperature is above 20 degrees, students will be outside at recess. Please ensure your student comes to school with a proper coat, hats, gloves, and clothing for the cold weather.
If your unable to provide a coat for your child, we have a couple available through our counseling office. Please contact Mrs. Voorhees.
JSD Facilities Meeting - November 14
A community meeting is planned for November 14, at 6:30 P.M. in the Jerome High School Library. The focus will be a consensus on grade configurations for the district as we move forward. We have had good discussions on this topic, but the board of trustees wants to make sure we have heard from as many people as possible, before a final decision is made. I hope you are able to attend this meeting and provide your input.
