From the Superintendent
West Irondequoit CSD update from Aaron Johnson
December 3, 2021
Dear Families,
Thanks to our dedicated professionals and you, our students continue to make noticeable gains. Hopefully, you know that you are never alone in our schools and community. We continue to find success through collaboration to support every child. It's never a linear path, but when we stay the course, nurture supportive and collegial relationships and work together, our children do their best. As we march towards this holiday season, let's make sure to remember our "why" to give our children the very best to support their hopes and dreams together.
Please accept these updates on behalf of our hardworking and committed staff. As always, we remain committed and available to answer questions and partner in your child(ren)'s best interest.
Sincerely,
Aaron R. Johnson, Ed. D
Superintendent of Schools
NEW COVID-19 ADMINISTRATOR
As COVID-19 relief, our district was awarded almost $8.5 million in various federal stimulus funds that comes with specific parameters on how it is spent. With input from our staff, we determined the need for a new COVID-19 Administrator on Special Assignment, and this week Mr. Chuck Miller was named to that post. Miller has worked in West Irondequoit for 28 years, most recently as Director of Data. Prior to that, he was a middle school principal for 12 years.
This short-term position will support COVID-19 related needs over the next three years and be evaluated annually for efficacy. Sample duties include supervising the expanding COVID-19 testing and reporting requirements, supporting COVID-19 related tutoring, coordinating COVID-19 associated supplies and materials and assisting with the additional hiring resulting from COVID-19 strains.
This new position will allow our Principals, Directors, Teachers and all staff to spend more time on tasks with students. We will soon post the Director of Data position and perform a rigorous hiring process to identify the best candidate in preparation for a late January 2022 transition.
IHS DRAMA PERFORMS TONIGHT & SATURDAY

- Story on WIF website
The WIF is the not-for-profit organization that raises money for our schools to support teacher and staff-initiated grants that enhance the educational experience. These are for programs or items that cannot be supported by the district's annual operating budget. The WIF’s 2021-22 donation of $58,225 pushed its 30-plus year total past the million-dollar milestone to $1,024,767.
