Cheryl Sewitsky is Retiring From Foothill High School After Serving TUSD for 25 years!!
Cheryl's Words to Our Knight Family:
Dear Foothill Family,
As you’ve all figured out by now (LOL), I have decided to retire. It has been a well-planned goal of mine to retire young, and I am so excited it is actually happening! I am so grateful that I will finally have the opportunity to dedicate more time to helping care for my parents and grateful to be able to slow down and focus on my family….and myself, for that matter!
CHEERS TO RETIREMENT!
Much love to you all!!
Cheryl
Wesley Scherff Will Be Honored In London England on Jan 1st!!
News from the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program
Senior IB Candidates are in the process of finalizing the essay component of their Theory of Knowledge (TOK) assessment requirements. The TOK course examines the relationship among academic disciplines, and investigates how one arrives at knowledge and develops reasoning skills.
TOK aims to stimulate critical reflection on knowledge and experience, challenge the basis of knowledge, make students aware of subjective and ideological biases, develop the ability to analyse evidence, examine the grounds for moral, political and aesthetic judgments and encourage students to appreciate other cultural perspectives. TOK is an integral part of the IB core and is a mandatory course for all IB candidates.
Virtual Experiments Lead to Healthy Academic Discussions in SPED
One way to gauge comprehension and mastery in a science class is the frequency and intentional use of the academic language for that particular discipline. This is challenging in all levels of classes; even more so in a class consisting of students with special needs.
At Foothill High School, in Mr. Singletary’s Life Science Class, SPED students are able to engage in these high level academic discussions in science with the use of virtual experiments. Gizmos is an online resource for Math and Science teachers to be able to perform virtual experiments that would be limited or impossible to replicate in a traditional lab.
Stimulation technologies like Gizmos can engage learners, connect them to content, and give students with special needs the access to high level experiments that they wouldn’t normally have access to in non-science facilities.
