Mercy is not often our first response when someone offends us or does something that irritates us. Jesus said, “Blessed are the merciful,” but sometimes we want to get back at people, or at least make them understand why they’re driving us crazy. We forget the mercy God has shown us. So often we come to God asking for our needs and praying He will show mercy and grant our requests. We forget to thank God for the mercy He has already shown us. We know from Scripture that our Heavenly Father invites us to bring our needs before Him, yet He also desires thanks and praise for what He has already done. Heavenly Father, Forgive us for the many times we come to you in prayer, forgetting the mercy you have already shown us. Renew in our hearts a deep sense of gratitude for the forgiveness we have in Christ. Forgive us for all the times we withhold compassion and forgiveness from others. Lord, give us the grace we need to see the people in our lives through your eyes. Pour out your compassion into our hearts that we may reflect it to others today. Guide our feet in the way of peace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
