Peek at the Week

October 8, 2017

In This School...

Thanks to those of you who sent the emails of praise to our wonderful faculty. I was overwhelmed by the gratitude from so many of you and completely agree to everything that was said. Our work is hard. It takes heart and passion. I see it every day from each of you and I could not be more thankful to work with such a wonderful group of people. Thank you for putting children first every day.

UNITED WAY CAMPAIGN

October 9 - November 3

Our United Way kickoff is Monday, October 9th. Our school goal this year is to raise just over $2,000, a 10% increase from last year. We have decided to do the following for both staff and students to get us to our goal:

  1. By the end of this week, students will be given film canisters to take home and fill with quarters. by November 1, the class who turns in the most money in the canisters will win a pizza party!
  2. Beginning this week, teachers will have an opportunity to purchase jeans passes. These will cost $25 for 8 passes. The jeans passes can be worn at teachers' discretion and will expire at the end of the school year.
  3. Change Wars - In the coming weeks, Mr. Wilson will be announcing the kickoff of "Change Wars". This will be a battle for the Westside versus Hanna game, which is October 27th. More information coming!

October 30th: PD and Parent Conferences

As you know, October 30th is both a parent conference day and a PD day. In order to make both of these events effective, we've decided to change the schedule somewhat. Below is the schedule we will follow. Please make your parent conferences according to these times.

8:00-11:00 Kindergarten - 2nd grade PD / 3-5 parent conferences

11:00 - 12:00 Lunch

12:00 - 3:00 3rd - 5th grade PD / K-2 parent conferences

4K teachers will use their entire day for parent conferences, per CDEP requirements.

Please keep a log of the parent conferences you conduct this year. This is an informal requirement, so please use your own log/form for this.

State Test Data

As late as last week, I've been receiving updates of test scores. Thanks to Megan Maness, you will be receiving your state test scores this week! :) Megan has worked on the data to create your student scores from last year as well as a roster of your current class of students' scores. Please use this data as you plan instruction and to inform your instructional decisions, as we discussed in our SLO conferences last week. Thank you Megan!

Inventories and Surveys

As part of our AdvancED certification process this year, we will be conducting inventories and surveys for certified teachers, support staff, parents and students to complete.

The purpose of the inventory is to learn about teachers’ experiences at work. Teachers are asked to answer each item honestly. All responses are completely confidential.

The link below is for CERTIFIED TEACHERS to complete by October 13th.
