The Dragon Blast

May 2021 - New Palestine Music & Performing Arts

This will be my last Dragon Blast, as the time has come to pass the torch to the new Community Liaison board member, Julie. She'll do a great job keeping the momentum going.

Firing up the Dragon Blast and trying to find ways to keep the important information accessible to our parents has been a super fun role & I'm looking forward to the next chapter and challenges my new position will hold.

I hope you've enjoyed some of my "humor" as much as I've enjoyed sharing it.

May The Fourth Be With You!

- Alan :)

Big picture

The time has come to sign up for this year’s IMS Gift Shop slots. For those that are new to the program, THIS is our biggest fundraising event of the year. Marching band, Concert band, Color Guard, Jazz Band… this is available to EVERYONE to earn some $$ towards your yearly dues.

The New Palestine Performing Arts Program has the exclusive opportunity to run the huge air-conditioned gift shop by the Start/Finish Line of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for all of the month of May. This means we need a lot of volunteers. Simply put, this event keeps our yearly dues from being substantially higher. Parent involvement is crucial, as each day needs to be fully staffed. If we are short, and we can’t perform to the level the Speedway requires, we may loose this amazing opportunity.

*NEW* for signing up, and working a full shift, your students account will be credited $50! (maximum of 2 credits per student account). That’s $100 off your dues! Plus, your student account will receive a portion of the profits our organization receives, based on our sales! There is also a sweet merchandise discount, if you are wanting any Indianapolis Motor Speedway gear/memorabilia. It really is a WIN-WIN-WIN.

Parents, grandparents, relatives and friends are all invited to help. Students are also invited to help, as long as they are 16 and older. Please check your calendar and reserve your preferred date(s) ASAP. First come, first served!

The required release form is also below. For each individual working a shift, please print, fill out, and send to Angie Campbell (email below) as soon as you can. We are no longer able to fill these forms out on the day you work your shift. IMS wants them in their hands as early as possible.

As of May 4th.. we are 44% filled. Please check your calendars and sign up for your $50 credits!

Examples of Tasks:

Being friendly & awesomely representing NPHS (obvi!)

Working a check out register
Restocking merchandise
Selling programs
Being a general helper/runner
Working in the back room prepping shirts/hats

Eligible workers are invited to sign up for more than 2 shifts, but there is a maximum of two $50 credits per student account. There is no limitation to your access to the profit sharing portion of the arrangement. If you work, the profit sharing applies.

If you have any questions, or to submit your completed IMS Release form, please reach out to Angie Campbell

Thank you in advance for volunteering & lets have some fun!

Congratulations to all of the members & staff of the 2021 Winter Guard & 2021 Audio Theater.

In a competition year like we have never seen, you all rose to the challenge and pushed through the wall of challenges and doubt.

If we could have asked any of the pre-pandemic groups what they thought about

...performing in masks that covered your nose/face

... having next to no crowd

... not being allowed to watch any other group/schools perform live

... and not having any retreat or awards after your performances, they'd certainly wonder what on earth you were talking about and think there was no way something like that could happen. Well we all know it did happen, and our 2021 groups lived it.

A special thank you goes out to all of our Winter Activities Seniors. Without your leadership, and setting the example, the season would not have been as smooth. Thank you for all your hard work & good luck in all you decide to do in your bright futures!!

Again - Congratulations to our talented performers & our inspiring staff! Finally, THANK YOU to our dedicated volunteers & passionate fans that made this season one to remember!!

.... DAD JOKE, rhythm edition!

Ok.. have some fun with this.

Get a beat going in your head. Something in a walking pace, or a nice slow march.

Tap your foot on the floor.. or tap your hand on your knee.. or nod your head if it helps... then READ these boxes in time - and even YOU can be a rhythm expert!

SCRIP Fundraiser

All year long - orders placed once per month

We have partnered with the SCRIP fundraising activity which rewards you for buying almost anything.

Shop at Kohls? (fundraising!) Shop at Best Buy?? (fundraising!!) Eat at BW3's or Wendy's? (Fundraising!!) Do you or someone you know BUY GAS?? Yep.. gas, too.

There are currently over 750 stores that participate.

How it works:

You pick a store & buy a gift card. ($10.. $20..$50.. any amount)

You receive the gift card, and your student account receives the rebate!

Each retailer has a set rebate & some are higher than others.

Lets say you need a new refrigerator. You buy a $500 gift card through SCRIP from Home Depot (yep, they're on there too). Home Depot may have a 4% SCRIP rebate going on. Your band account receives $20 and you get the $500 to buy your fridge.

Get it?? Pretty cool, eh?

For more info on SCRIP, or for help getting started, contact Dawn Smith.
