IMPORTANT- Absences and Student Attendance Update
Absences and Student Attendance Update
My child logged on late to his Zoom class. Will he be marked tardy or absent?
What happens if my child logs on to his Zoom class, but doesn’t pay attention?
I know my child is understanding her coursework and completing her assignments, but I don’t think she’s participating much in her online classes. Does this affect attendance during distance learning?
These and many other important questions about attendance and student engagement were explored during this week’s School Board meeting. CCUSD School and Family Services Coordinator Dr. Kim Indelicato presented the district’s new approach to attendance and student engagement while students are in full distance learning, including definitions and examples of unexcused absences, excused absences, being present and minimally engaged and being present and engaged.
This presentation is critically important for parents to watch. Some of the information may surprise you. Please view the short video presentation here.

The 2020-2021 Linwood E. Howe Boosters Pledge Drive is underway!
The 2020-2021 Linwood E. Howe Boosters Pledge Drive is underway!
The Boosters is our school’s very own dedicated non-profit, committed to supporting and enhancing the Lin Howe student experience with programs and support staff that CCUSD isn’t able to fund on its own. The Boosters funds Instructional Aides and enrichment programs such as: Green Team, Growing Great, Arts Outreach, Spanish and Math Olympiad. Over the past 12 years, the Boosters have done so much to support and boost our students!
As we face a school year that will look different than any before, now more than ever, we need your help to ensure that ALL Lin Howe students get what they need – both while distance learning and upon the eventual return to campus. Perhaps most crucially, our four Instructional Aides will be critical as our teachers make sure all students have the support they need this year.
In the 2019-2020 school year, the Boosters pledge drive raised $112,000 and we were able to fund FOUR Instructional Aides. We couldn’t have done it without your support!
Our goal this year is to raise $100,000! Funding four instructional aides alone will take approximately $92,000 this year. We don't know if our Spring Auction will be able to be held, so your tax-deductible donation during the pledge drive is even more important this year.
We know these are challenging times for everyone and we don’t take this request for monetary support lightly. If you are in a position to give, we hope you will help us give all our students the boost they need this year. If we all give what we can, ALL our Lin Howe students will have what they need to succeed!
