Bobcat Bulletin
Week of December 13th
From the Desk of Principal Schmid
It's hard to believe we are making our way into our final FULL week of school in 2021. As I reflect back on the past calendar year, I continue to be in awe of the challenges our students and staff have overcome in just one year.
At this point last year, we were still working in a virtual format and doing our best to navigate a new way of teaching and learning, while partnering with you from home. Although incredibly challenging, we have learned a lot from this experience in making us stronger in our instruction, developmental knowledge, and deficit growth. We have learned to be grateful for each day we get to spend with our Bobcats, and to capitalize on those social and teachable moments that we were missing in a virtual format.
I continue to be SO PROUD of our Bobcat community, and I am looking forward to cheering on our staff and students as we conclude 2021 at Brookdale!
With a Proud Heart,
Mrs. Keeley Schmid
Brookdale's Proud Principal
UPDATES
Thank you to our Bobcats who joined basketball night Friday! Fun was had by all, and we even had a Bobcat that lost his first ever tooth, which led to a team tooth find--one for the memory books for sure!
Special thank you to our chairs Matt Guerrero, Jay Romero and Craig Louden for coordinating! Join us next time on Friday, January 28 from 6:30-8pm.
Giftmart
The Giftmart box is being picked up at Brookdale at noon, on Monday 12/13. If you have any last minute items you want to donate, you can drop them by Brookdale in the AM.
If you are a family who will be attending Giftmart and have RSVPed, tickets will be delivered on Monday and dispersed in the following days.
2022-2023 Calendar
On Monday night, the Board of Education approved a modified version of Calendar Option A which is the calendar version that received the most staff votes. We modified the calendar by adding two days onto Spring Break to accommodate Voting Day.
Please see this link to find the calendar for the 2022-2023 school year on the main page of the district website.
Emergency Days: E-Learning
If a situation occurs that requires Indian Prairie School District 204 to cancel in-person learning for a day, we will enact our e-Learning procedures. These procedures were put in place prior to the COVID-19 pandemic when we were trying to prepare for e-learning on severe weather days. Since these procedures were created in 2019, there have been many changes in our ability to provide learning opportunities remotely. The main changes have been the consistent use of Google classroom and technology availability for our youngest learners.
Whenever possible, notification regarding e-Learning Days will occur in the evening prior to the emergency day. Here is an FAQ regarding this type of day. Teachers will have the assigned work posted by the start of the school day for their given levels. For students who do not take their Chromebooks home each night (typically early childhood, kindergarten and first grade) teachers will have sent home a paper copy of a work packet for the students to complete. Teachers will be available to answer questions by email. If the emergency day is expected to be for one day only, the expectation will be for students to complete the work assigned independently. If, for some reason, the emergency situation is expected to be continued for an extended length of time, we will communicate additional plans to provide live instruction opportunities.

Academically Talented Programming
District 204 offers a variety of academic programs to meet the needs of our students starting in 3rd grade. Although assessment occurs throughout the school year for all students, some programs require the gathering of additional information in order to determine appropriate placement. Our identification process for Project Arrow and Accelerated Math programs includes the use of multiple measures when considering the total child for academic programming. We consider standardized and normed assessment data including, but not limited to, the following: Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT), Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS), aimswebPlus, classroom assessments and students' learning characteristics.
For additional information regarding the timeline and our programming in District 204, please see the below link.
Submit a "Trophy High" to be Read on the Morning Announcements!
**We are in need of submissions!
We have incorporated into our morning announcements "Trophy High Tuesday" to celebrate the wonderful things our Bobcats are doing in our school and around our community! Please share a "Trophy High" with us. Depending the amount we receive, we cannot guarantee every "Trophy High" will make it on the announcements, but we appreciate you helping us celebrate the wonderful things our Bobcats are doing!
Arrival/Dismissal Reminders
Arrival Times
As a reminder, school begins at 9:05am and 9:15am on Wednesdays. If students are not in the door by 9:05am (9:15am on Wednesdays), they are marked tardy. Being on time for school helps your child have a successful start to the day, and we appreciate your support in getting them to school on-time. If we can be of support in helping your child be on-time, please reach out to the school, and we can help support and problem solve!
Change of Dismissal
If your child has a change to his/her dismissal plan, please call the office by 3:15PM at the latest. If the change of dismissal is made after 3:15, it cannot be guaranteed that we can get the message to the child because many times they are already enroute.
