Formative Assessment Resources
Quizziz
If you like Kahoot, you will love Quizizz. Quizizz allows you to create and play awesome multiplayer quiz games, both in class and at home. Teachers can launch a Quizizz through Google Classroom for use in class or as practice at home. While your students are having a blast moving at their own pace, you are provided with detailed class and student-level data.
CLICK HERE for the Quizziz website.
Vocaroo
Vocaroo is an easy to use voice recorder that allows students to quickly verbalize their understanding of a concept. Students can share their recording using a web link or QR code. This is a great option for younger students who may struggle with the writing component of expressing their understanding. It would also be useful for recording a piece of text for one of your listening standards. All you would need to do is record the text and put the QR code on a sheet with questions for them to answer.
Critical Thinking Resources
Crack My Venn
This strategy uses a 2 or 3 circle Venn diagram to compare and contrast content related material. Students will complete the Venn diagram, but do NOT include the labels of the items being compared. Then students trade Venn diagrams and work to determine the concepts, ideas, or vocabulary being compared. Once a student has "cracked the Venn" they can trade with another student and repeat the process. This can be done verbally or with dry erase markers if the Venn diagram is placed in a plastic page protector.

Bracketology
Bracketology is a critical thinking twist to a sports bracket tournament where the team who wins moves to the next level until only one team remains. In the classroom, students can be challenged to consider key concepts, characteristics, or people that are most important or influential. For this strategy, there is no "right" answer per se, but a focus on the dialogue and justification that is taking place between group members. Students could go through this process individually and/or with a small group. Then share the first "round" of choices and the "final" decision as a whole group.
CLICK HERE for a premade Bracketology template. Before trying to type into the template, please make a copy first. Then type into your copy of the bracket.
Active Engagement Resources
Quiz, Quiz, Trade
To utilize Quiz, Quiz Trade in your classroom provide each student with a different "knowledge level" question. They roam around the room, pair up with another student, take turns asking and answer their questions, trade cards, and move on to find another student. To raise the level of cognitive engagement, have students create the questions.
Give One, Get One
To facilitate Give One, Get One, provide each student with a paper with two columns; one is labeled Give One; the other, Get One. The teacher asks a question. Students generate responses and write them in their Give One column. Using Stand Up, Hand Up, Pair Up, students will form pairs with classmates who are not on their team. Each partner Gives One to his/her partner and then Gets One response. Each student records the response he/she received in his/her Get One column. Students continue to form new pairs giving, receiving, and recording responses until sheets are completed. When all students have finished, or time is up, they return to their teams and compare lists.
Feedback Resources
Conditional Formatting of Google Sheets
Red Light/Green Light is a Google Sheets activity in which students answer questions within specified cells and based on their answer the cell turns green when correct or red when incorrect. This allows students to have immediate feedback and the file can be saved to their Google drive for additional practice later. CLICK HERE to access a template of Red Light/Green Light and HERE for specific directions on how to conditionally format a Google Sheet.
Examples: integers and analogies (paired with a “Kick Me” activity)
Conditional Branching in Google Forms
Branching starts by asking a question in Google Forms. Based on their response, they are then directed to another question, article, or task. This process allows you to immediately respond to students’ needs without having to collect and grade each piece of work. It also allows for students to demonstrate mastery, work on trouble areas, or further extend their knowledge and thinking around a topic. The following videos walk you through how to create multiple branches of your form based on what your users are choosing as answers. You can use this to create "choose your own adventure" stories and more.
