The Tribe Times
January 9, 2023
From The Desk of Mr. Allen
We had a great week back last week. Our teachers and support staff took time to review common expectations while also preparing standards-based lessons. We also reviewed our winter MAP data again in order to make instructional decisions to ensure that all scholars make growth.
As we mentioned last week, scholars will come home with Chromebooks on Tuesday and Thursday this week. This will allow you to login to the device and Google Classroom with your scholar in order to prepare for any NTI days (please see additional information below and on our school's website). Our goal is to ensure that NTI days run smoothly, you know how and where to access materials, etc. Please reach out to your scholar's teacher with any specific questions.
Please ensure that your scholar arrives each day with their backpack. This allows us the opportunity to send home any materials, Chromebooks, etc., and that each scholar has a transportation tag which is of utmost importance.
This week, the Superintendent will host an Open House at CGWP on Thursday, January 12th beginning at 6 p.m. We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible in attendance. Please complete the form below if you plan to attend.
We continue to appreciate your support, dedication, and commitment to CGWP. Together, we can make a difference!
Thank you,
Lamar Allen

Friendly Reminders (Repeat)
- Please read classroom newsletters each week to stay informed.
- Please do NOT park on East Sixth Street to avoid causing traffic issues for neighbors.
- Students MUST be dropped off in the carline each morning. Please do NOT park and allow them to cross the street - this presents a significant safety hazard.
- When picking up in the afternoon, please use Alabama Avenue to enter Keller Alley where a staff member will collect car numbers.
- Walkers are reserved for students who walk home within the neighborhood. If your scholar is NOT walking home, please use our carline.
- Transporation changes MUST be emailed to Ms. Essence by noon each day.
Non-Traditional Instruction - NTI (Repeat)
As we approach the onset of winter, including the potential for inclement weather, we want to communicate important information as it relates to NTI days. On days when FCPS will NOT be in session in-person, but rather use Non-Traditional Instructional (NTI) days, scholars will have school work.
The work that will be assigned on NTI days will NOT be new material. Assigned work will include material already taught and be a reinforcement of those concepts and skills. This will ensure that scholars can complete the assignments without or with limited assistance.
Beginning the week of January 9th, scholars will bring their Chromebooks to and from school on Tuesday and Thursday so they can practice using their device at home. Please follow all instructions from your scholar’s teacher. It will be very important for you to practice logging in to the device, and specifically Google Classroom, in order to access instructional materials.
Students will need their Chromebooks for instructional purposes on NTI days. Therefore, it is important they come to and from school on days when they are sent home. Please follow the instructions below for Chromebook care:
Carry the Chromebook with two hands at all times
Keep all liquids away from the device
If plugged in, ensure that the cord doesn’t become a tripping hazard causing the device to fall
When finished, fully charge the device for the next day
Place the device in your scholar’s backpack to be used at school the next day
Please note that NTI will consist of asynchronous learning ONLY. Asynchronous learning takes place outside of a live meet; therefore, students will NOT be required to login to live meets. With that said, your scholar’s teacher WILL have office hours from 8:30-10:30 a.m. via their zoom link. During this time, scholars can receive help, ask questions, etc. This time is NOT dedicated for conferences.
Other important information:
Work will be posted by 8:00 a.m. on Google Classroom
A google slide deck will contain all instructions and assignments for the day.
A daily schedule has been established to help both you and your scholar on these days. If you prefer to skip some of the breaks, please feel free to do so; however, the schedule reflects our regular school day in order to help you and your scholars with time management.
Students will navigate to the assignments slide and complete their reading, math, and special area activities for the day.
Students will have 1.5 hrs. Of reading, 1 hr of math, and 30 minutes of specials.
**Please visit our NTI link located on the school’s website which can be found at fcps.net/cgwprep
