Lowell to Participate in Tech 2014 in Springfield
Students will show the public and elected members of the Senate and House how technology is being used in the classroom to improve student achievement. Computer workstations will be set up in the Capitol Building Rotunda so students may show how technology has helped them with their schoolwork.
Lowell 5th grade students Madelyn Allen and Ty Carey, along with Lowell teacher Carmen MacDonald are taking part in the demonstrations and will show how “flipped learning” can have a positive impact on student success in the classroom. By using the website www.Sophia.org, students are able to view lessons on language arts, math or social studies that they are able to access on an electronic device any time of the day and any day of the week. These tutorials allow the students to listen to the lesson at home so they will be ready to practice the skills at school.
The purpose of TECH 2014 is to raise awareness of the critical role technology plays in preparing students to succeed in today’s world, and to show the need for increased funding for classroom technology. Students will demonstrate for lawmakers and the public the creative ways technology is being used to enhance and accelerate student achievement in Illinois schools today. The importance of this event lies in making the public aware of the central role technology has come to play in our schools and generating support for its adequate funding.
The Green Corner
Thank you, Lowell community, for your support of our Earth Month recycling drive. Please keep in mind that as part of our ongoing green efforts, next year's Jamboree prizes will once again be sourced partly from donations. Consider starting a bin now and stashing away any items you might like to donate. Possibilities include new or gently-used pencils, bouncy balls, stickers, books, matchbox cars, figurines, Happy meal toys, and party favors. Thanks!
