APPRECIATE THEIR APPROXIMATIONS!
Learning Something NEW - TURN & TALK
Think of the last time you learned to do something new. How did it go?
Talk to someone near you about how that felt, and who taught you.
Ever gone to "Painting with a Twist"?
How does the instructor get you to complete a painting?
The artist takes you step by step through the painting. She appreciates your approximations and gives you some one-on-one if you need it. She may have to give you a nudge, but she'll never push you to make your painting exactly like hers.
THEY NEED A NUDGE NOT A PUSH!

Super Sensory - Food: A feast for the senses
Authors Use Sensory Details
Authors use sensory details when they write so that the readers can feel like they are part of the book. They want us to get a mental picture so that we feel like we see what they see and hear what they hear.
Let's see how one author does it.
I do. We do. You do.
Read aloud a mentor text - Mini-lesson - Notice the sensory details used by the author.
Model - This is how I could write like that.
Guided practice - What do you think?
Independent practice - Can you write like that?
[NO LIMITS COASTER 2] THE BULLET - LAUNCH COASTER INTAMIN
Will you help me get started with my book?
The book, Roller Coaster, reminded me of a time when I took my boys to Fiesta Texas. I think I want to write about the time my oldest son rode on one of the rides and I watched. The reason I think this would be a good time to write about is that the ride splashed water all over me and it was very funny!
