What you need to know this week
NAIS People of Color Conference
One striking piece of information we gained was that the Statue of Liberty was not built as a monument to immigration, but rather to celebrate the Union's victory in the Civil War and the end of American Slavery. You can learn more about that here.
Bringing this kind of thinking to Soundview helps us better respect each other, learn to listen carefully, and support all of our community members. If you would like to read more about the connections between Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Social-Emotional Learning, please click here!

SPORTS NEWS
Thursday's Double-header
On Thursday, both of our basketball teams were in action defending their home court. The Lady Bulldogs opened their first game of the season vs. the Harvey School. Sr. Guard Leah Townsend Brown started the charge with scoring the first four points for the Bulldogs. Fr. Guard Sarah Alonzi led the way with seven steals and five assists as the Bulldogs fought hard and long until the end of regulation. Fr. Forward Marygrace Iannacito led the team with seventeen rebounds in her first official basketball game. The Lady Bulldogs went on a 7-0 run in the last two minutes, but fell short 22-29. Overall, it was an amazing game for our SPS Girls; most of the team are just learning about the sport!
The Soundview boys got off to a slow start vs the Stormers of Mt. Kisco. Sr. Forward David Gao led the charge with two straight steals to start the second quarter and change the momentum of the game. Fr. Guard Luke Roberts led the Bulldogs in steals, finishing with 6 points and seven steals. Sr. Guard Ben Neuberger led SPS with nine assists while also chipping in with 13 points. Jr. Guard Miles Buckley finished the game off, igniting his team with 26 points, 13 rebounds, and six assists. The Bulldogs cruised to victory by 14 points.

LIGHT HOUSEKEEPING
Weather Report
Soundview follows the Yorktown School District’s decisions regarding school closings and delayed openings. At times, we may cancel or delay school in cases when Yorktown does not if it impacts another big area where students live.
BEST BET:
If inclement weather or other unforeseen event forces the school to close for a day a notification will be sent via email, text, and/or phone call.
There are a number of ways to get the latest information on delays and closings:
Visit our web site’s home page. Closings and delays will pop up when they are happening
Delayed Openings/Closures will be posted to Soundview's Facebook page
Listen to FM station WHUD 100.7
Watch NY Local channel 12
*Please remember a school delay may turn into a school closure if the weather conditions do not improve.
TRANSPORTATION EMERGENCIES:
If you do not have a copy of the student directory, please email pa@soundviewprep.org.
This way if a delayed open or early dismissal impacts your normal busing, you may be able to carpool with other families nearby.
