What is happening at Glenwood, October 3, 2021
News from Dr. Cappucci
Curriculum Nights were held in the last two weeks.
I want to thank all of Glenwood's teachers for our wonderful virtual curriculum nights. I have attached the powerpoint presentation for all three grade levels. Please feel free to contact teachers with any questions you may have.
The 4th grade team shared this saying and it sums up all of Glenwood!
Homework at Glenwood- Students are expected to read nightly and practice their facts.
In an effort to allow children to be children and give them time to explore their interests and spend time with their families, we will continue with our unstructured homework. It is expected that students read (20 -40 minutes a night depending on their grade levels) and practice math facts nightly. However, there won’t be a reading log or anything to check off for math facts - it’s just expected that both will be done. Students will be held accountable for knowing their math facts as well as reading for enjoyment each night. The only time homework will be formally assigned is when students need to study for a test/quiz or complete a project. Here is a list of things you can do with your child at home in the absence of formal homework. I know it is tempting for children to use a device or watch TV in the absence of formalized homework, but the following list will provide a more fun and enriching experience for your child.
The Panorama Survey begins this week.
As you may already be aware, helping students to build social emotional skills is an important goal for our school. Between October 4th-13th, students will be asked to complete an online questionnaire that encourages them to reflect on their own mindsets and approaches to learning. The surveys will be completed during the school day.
These questionnaires have been developed by Panorama and contain research based questions and follow up data guided actional steps to support student growth in social emotional learning. Our focus will be on the following competencies: Social Awareness, Self-Management, Growth Mindset, Teacher-Student Relationships, School Safety and Sense of Belonging. It is our goal to help students and teachers learn more about themselves and how they learn best by completing this process.
If you have questions about this process or if you’d like to learn more about how these activities help meet our goals, please contact me directly. Thank you for your ongoing support of your student(s) and of our school

What is Happening at Glenwood
Our Makerspace and Science Lab were closed for 18 months. We are so excited to open them up this year.
Please do not drop off Makerspace materials if we are not in the building. We will have to throw away the materials if we are unsure of where they came from. Thank you for understanding.
A true makerspace is defined not by what's in it, but rather by what comes out of it: projects, experiences, artifacts, and learning. At Glenwood we are looking to have a makerspace that opens opportunities for children to design, create and explore. We are looking for donations of materials we can use in our makerspace. We are in desperate need of materials for our makerspace. Some things that we can not get enough of are:
small pieces of wood and nails for building
Cereal and cardboard boxes
masking and duct tape,
toilet paper and paper towel rolls,
craft supplies,
cereal boxes,
cardboard,
fabric, yarn,
streamers
plastic containers,
or anything that may end up in the recycling bin
We appreciate these and other materials that are in a clean and usable condition.
We need wood, nails and any other materials on the list.
