Parent-Student-Teacher Interviews Nov 17 and 18: BOOKING IS OPEN! Appointments can be made using pickAtime, our online booking software. The instructions for booking appointments are attached.
Please note that interviews are not mandatory and you have the option to contact a teacher to arrange a phone call or alternate meeting time if that is preferable. Also, you may wish to wait until the November progress reports are emailed to you (target date Tuesday Nov 15) and then arrange appointments accordingly. Students are expected to attend Zoom interviews with their parents on Nov 17 and 18.
Mr. Lajoie is available to meet with families on Thursday afternoon. If there’s a matter you’d like to discuss via Zoom on that date, please contact Ms. Beech to arrange a time. Mr. Lajoie is available via phone or email, as usual, outside of the Parent-Student-Teacher interview dates.
$2 Poppy Donation for the Remembrance Day Assembly: Middle and Senior students will attend an assembly on Friday, November 11 in Coristine Hall with guest speakers Major-General (Retired) Denis Thompson, and Ryan Carey (who will be honoured with a Sacrifice Medal). Please note that all students are required to be in full uniform (including blazers), and must wear a poppy. Poppies will be distributed before the assembly that day, and a suggested donation of $2 is requested for the Royal Canadian Legion in support of Canadian veterans and to promote Remembrance.
FOCUS is back! Our Middle School Homework Supervision program will resume on Monday, November 14. We welcome Ms. Schaffer, our new FOCUS supervisor, to the Middle School team. She has worked previously at Selwyn House in our Student Success Centre (SSC) and as a substitute teacher and she brings this experience to her new role. FOCUS will be open from 2:50-5:50pm every day. Students will be able to arrive and begin work at any time during these hours, including after physical education. This program supports students to get homework done in a timely and conscientious manner. If you are interested in having your son participate, please contact Ms. Beech for more information (fees, etc.).
Covid Protocol Updates: On November 3, Quebec public health officials announced the removal of isolation periods from their Covid-19 protocols. The latest recommendations to limit the spread of respiratory infectious diseases can be found here.
If you have a fever or don't feel well, stay at home.
If you have any symptoms of respiratory infectious diseases, wear a mask until symptoms are gone. Covid symptoms remain unchanged and can be found here.
At Selwyn House, we will continue to encourage good hand hygiene and supply masks for staff and students upon request.
The government will be providing rapid test kits in the month of November, which will be promptly distributed to students.
We ask our families to continue to communicate positive Covid test results with the school and to support mask-wearing when any symptoms are present in order to help us to best take care of our community.
We will continue to post all reported positive cases weekly on our Covid Corner webpage.
Go Gryphons! Come cheer on the Gryphons Juvenile Football team as they play their semi-final game against Loyola at McGill's Molson Percival Memorial Stadium on Friday November 11, 2022. Congratulations to the Grade 8 students who participated in the MS Science Olympics held on Wednesday, November 9. Teams of SHS and ECS students had to find a way to drop an egg from Selwyn’s roof to the ground without breaking it. The teams showed skill and creativity in this endeavor! Many thanks to Ms. Dalton, Ms. Corbie and ECS for their organization and participation, and to our intrepid Grade 8 scientists: Joseph Agozzino, Max Baltuch, Vojtech Blasch, Denzel Bordenave, Nathan Chen, Ken Lin, Clement Ma, Luca Mattei, Oli Morin, and Spencer Roiter.
MS representation at this year’s Design Challenge! This past weekend, Grade 7 students William Lacasse and Jacques Hu participated in-person in this event hosted at SHS in collaboration with the Concussion Legacy Foundation Canada and Play4Tomorrow. Over three days, students learned the design thinking process and were challenged to redesign the future of sport, while considering the dangers of concussion injuries. Students worked in a secure, video-game-like online portal and those who were at Selwyn House made physical prototypes for their ideas. We’re so proud of their initiative and involvement in this stimulating and worthwhile experience!
