Attendance Call Time Again

Classroom teachers if you need to make attendance calls this information will be placed in your mailbox by the end of Monday. Please make these calls by Friday, December 5th. Make sure to record them in SISK12.

If you are making a call, there are two types of call.

  • Positive Call-This is a student who has struggled with attendance, but attendance rate is improving. Please call to celebrate and encourage this positive trend to continue. Please follow your script.
  • Concern Call-This is a student who's attendance rate is right around 90%. These students can still turn their attendance around. Many times these are students who have taken a vacation. Please follow your script.

Counselors and administrators make the calls to students who attendance is more significantly low.

These calls make a difference. Some students are no longer on our list after the first round of calls. Thanks for all you do!

Emergency Contact Numbers for School Reach

Here are a few reminders regarding the SchoolReach calls for all WSD employees:

The employee phone numbers are pulled from the employee demographic record. To view and update your demographic record, login to the Staff Portal on the district webpage, then go to Submit Personal Info Changes. At the top of this page you will see your current address and phone numbers.

To update or change phone numbers fill out the appropriate fields at the bottom of that page and click Submit. Each employee can have up to two phone numbers called. Please review your phone numbers ahead of potential inclement weather as the changes are not automatic and may take 1-2 business days to be accepted.

Note: SchoolReach will not call the same phone number more than once per initiated call. What that means is if an employee has a spouse and two children who attend school in the district, and the home phone number is listed under each of these, then SchoolReach would only call that home number once and not four times.

Lion Express-Check that Mail!

Unfortunately we had a student misuse the Lion Express and send a letter that did not contain kind words. Therefore, we thought it was necessary to send out an email with a few important reminders.

1. All letters can be folded with the address written on the outside of the letter; however, letters should not be taped or stapled. In addition, letters should not be placed in an envelope.

2. Let your students know that letters are being screened and read. I have been reading some letters during the sorting process. Teachers you do not have to read all letters; however, please read a letter or two silently in front of your class before they are placed in the mailbag to show the students that we are checking the mail.

3. Consequences are in place for students who send letters that contain inappropriate content for school. Administration and classroom teachers will be notified. A conference will take place with the student. At that time a student will receive a letter stating their mail privilege has been suspended for approximately a month. Once their suspension is lifted, I will screen all of their mail. In addition, a letter will be sent home to notify parents.

Please continue to encourage students to utilize the Lion Express but be sure to remind them that all mail should be appropriate for school.
