Snow Day is a School Day Challenge
February 13, 2019
Today's Day
Today feel free to complete as many challenges as you would like. Post a photo of your student completing each challenge to our Facebook feed with the designated hashtags (#)!
Don't forget your name and teacher if you want to receive credit for the class activity!
Math
Cut out a snowman from a piece of paper. Next, make three hats and scarves out of different colored paper (or color if you don't have different colored paper). Let your student dress the snowmen and count how many different combinations they can make to determine the total possible.

Science
Start by inflating a balloon inside and tieing up the end. Take measurements of the circumference or diameter.
Place the balloon outside and observe as it deflates. Take the same measurements.
Bring the balloon back inside and watch as it re-inflates. If the temperature is getting warmer or colder throughout the day, have kids time how long it takes for the balloon to deflate at different temperatures.
This experiment demonstrates how gases expand and contract.

Take a walk!
During your walk, challenge your student to look for tracks in the fresh snow. Discuss what animals may have made those tracks and what types of clues may be present. For example, dogs and cats have four toes, while deer have only two. Mice will often leave a narrow line in the snow as they drag their tail.
Photograph your student with any tracks they find and post to our Facebook page with #SnowdayFunday2019
Extra Credit!
Create and video a snow day song and post in the comments!
