We Are Together Tamanend!
August 12, 2020
Greetings from Tamanend Middle School!
A Message From Our Principal
Dear Tamanend Community,
It is with great anticipation and excitement that I look forward to the start of the 2020-2021 school year! Our team is busy preparing to provide an exceptional learning experience for our students. I know that the start of this school year will feel different; however, I am confident that our faculty and support staff will continue with the Tamanend tradition of excellence in educating and addressing the social and emotional growth of our students. In the meantime, I look forward to connecting with you soon in the following ways:
- Our weekly editions of the Tamanend Connections newsletter will begin the Week of August 31.
- We are planning a virtual orientation for all students. This orientation will serve two purposes: (1) familiarize 7th Graders with our school and (2) familiarize all students and parent with expectations and protocols related to virtual learning. The date of the virtual orientation is still to be determined.
- The "Tamanend 2020-2021 Opening of School" page will updated regularly as a quick guide to the most relevant information for the start of the school year. Click here to access this page.
- Follow us on Twitter @CBTamanendMS
Please know that as principal, I am here to support you and your child as we navigate the middle school years together. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me with questions, concerns, or just to talk.
Sincerely,
Brian D. Caughie, Ed.D.
Principal
Tamanend Middle School

There is Still Time to Engage in Some Great Summer Reading!
In an effort to generate enthusiasm for reading during the summer months, our summer reading program provides students with CHOICES.
Our goal is to have students reading on a regular basis because they choose to do so. When students are interested and engaged in a book, reading becomes a meaningful part of their lives. For this reason, we encourage students to choose books that interest them.
We encourage you to be involved in conversations with your child about the book(s) they choose to read. When family plays an active role in their child’s reading life, students can witness firsthand the role reading can play in their lives.
Students in Grades 7-9 at Tamanend Middle School are encouraged to read one or more fiction, nonfiction book or graphic novel of their choice. In the Fall, students will participate in fun activities surrounding Summer Reading. You can find the Tamanend Summer Reading Sway here. The list of books in the Sway was generated to help students spark some ideas for summer reading. Remember, students may select books listed in the Sway OR any title of their choosing, as long as it is middle-school appropriate.
Thank you for being an important part of our reading community!
1 to 1 Student Laptop Initiative
All Tamanend students will have a district-issued laptop. 7th Graders will be issued new laptops. 8th and 9th Graders will use the same laptop they used last year. Students new to the school district will be issued a new laptop. The date of laptop distribution for 7th Graders and students new to the school district is yet to be determined.
The following actions are required by parents of 7th and 8th Grade students and parents of any student new to Central Bucks School District. No action is required for parents of returning 9th Grade students.
1--Complete the laptop user agreement.
2--Pay the fee* through the MyPaymentsPlus system:
7th Graders: $75 (covers 7th, 8th, 9th Grade years)
returning 8th Graders: $25 (covers 8th and 9th Grade years)
returning 9th Graders: no fee (no action required)
*Families who qualify for the Free/Reduced Lunch Program will automatically receive a $0 fee in MyPayments Plus. Even though the fee is waived, families must still "checkout" to complete this step and be marked as paid on our technology report. If your child does not qualify for the Free/Reduced Lunch Program, but you are experiencing a financial hardship, please email Dr. Brian Caughie (bcaughie@cbsd.org) to discuss payment reduction options.
