WHAT'S HAPPENING IN THE CLASSROOM??
- Homework: Students need to get their weekly reflections signed, complete bingo and the math problem on the back side. They need to return everything together in the homework folder by Friday of each week!
- Language Arts -Unit 7-Communities Then and Now! Click here for the parent letter. The essential question we are exploring is, What is a Community? We will be working on this unit all the way up until Spring Break. In class we will explore a variety of fiction and non-fiction texts looking at various communities. Additionally, students will think about the communities they are part of and analyze how each community affects their lives. Reading skills we will be practicing in class include: Key details and main idea, using context clues to define vocabulary, Identify key events and summarize, making inferences & using graphic features to better understand a text.
- Writing -We will practice a variety of narrative writing throughout this unit. Students will understand how to write a personal narrative describing the details of a specific event.
- Spelling- Suffixes -er and -or (farmer, director, painter, etc.), Homophones (blue/blew, ate/eight, buy/by, etc.) & variant vowel /o/ (caught, fall, draw, and bought).
- Vocabulary- Students will be able to use reference materials and context clues to define domain-specific vocabulary. They will show their understanding of the words by using them in a sentence during collaborative conversations and in their writing. Here is a link to the unit 7 vocabulary words.
- Math -Week of March 11th will be our final week of fractions. Then we will move into Unit 5-Measurement & Geometry. Click here for the Unit 5 Parent Letter with the big ideas of what we will be covering during our last major math unit before state testing. Continue to practice multiplication facts at home!!! We will also continue working on solving multi-step word problems. Students will solve each problem by identifying the given information in the problem, understanding what they are solving for and correctly solving it using the appropriate operation (addition, subtraction, multiplication or division).
- Innovation: Innovation Block 3! Students will continue week 2 in the makerspace where they will finish their design thinking challenge to build a tiny home for a "client." Then we will move into innovation lab with Ms. Roy where students will get daily typing practice and go over the interface and tools on the state testing site for both math and ELA.
