Principal Message - January 13, 2016

As we near the 100th day of school there is a lot to be excited about. The social and academic growth of our students is amazing. I am so lucky to visit classrooms on a regular basis and see creative and exciting lessons/activities being implemented by faculty and staff and watching students collaborate, explore, and be an active participant in their own learning!

The months of January, February, and March are very difficult months of school. The early sunset, the cold weather, many times no structured play, and not many breaks from school. Although these months are difficult, I am positive you will see great social and academic growth in your child. School routines and expectations are set and teachers are really pushing forward with the foundational tools that students will need to be successful. Collaboration, exploration, and hands-on learning will be the driving force of their learning. Please continue to ask your child about school and what they are doing in their classrooms and remember our character theme for the month of January is "Good Manners". Please continue to talk to your child about making good choices and how their day was in school.

I hope that your 2016 is off to an awesome start and thank you for your support of our school!

Count Me In - School Attendance

As discussed at Back to School Night, school attendance counts! It is so important for a child's academic development to attend school on a regular basis. Numerous educational studies discuss the importance of strong school attendance. Please take a few minutes to review some great information:

Family Reading Time!

I encourage each Hazelwood family to make time to read as a family. The time spent reading with your child feeds their brain and helps develop the love of literacy. This is a perfect time to start taking a few minutes each day and read aloud to your child (great modeling strategy) or listen to your child read. Nothing is better than sharing a great book. It is a great way to spend quality time as a family!

Going Green

Hazelwood School will be "Going Green". For additional information please click: http://goo.gl/04FNk5
