First Lego League Competition
Congratulations to all WSD3 elementary schools who competed in the First Lego League (FLL) competition at Discovery Canyon on Saturday. All of our teams improved from last year with presenting their projects and completed complicated tasks. Several teams took advantage of three build days to prepare for Saturday's challenge. A huge thank you to the coaches and students who put in a very long day.
Signing Day at MRHS
Two student-athletes at Mesa Ridge High School signed national letters of intent to play basketball at Division 1 colleges. Chloe Welch signed with Davidson College in North Carolina and Deven Nelson signed with the Air Force Academy.
Janitell Jaguar Takes 1st Place at Toastmasters
Congratulations to Desiree Lovato for taking 1st Place in the Evaluation Contest at the
2017 Toastmasters International competition. Desiree beat eight other finalists from District 26 which includes 109 clubs from Colorado, Wyoming, and Nebraska. Toastmasters is an international speaking and leadership club. Desiree is a member of Artfully Speaking, Colorado Orators, and Top Class Toastmasters. Desiree says Toastmasters is a great way to practice communication and learn to lead more purposefully.

Out of this World Field Trips
The 5th graders at Talbott STEAM Innovation School went on a field trip to the Challenger Learning Center where they got to do a space flight simulation. The mission control room is designed after NASA Johnson Space Center and the orbiting space station is modeled after the laboratory on the International Space Station. During the space mission, students work as engineers and scientists to solve real-world problems. On board astronauts work with their counterparts in mission control to fly the space mission.
Talbott Read-A-Thon Day
Talbott STEAM Innovation School hosted its annual Read-A-Thon on Friday. Guest readers were invited to come and read to classrooms. A group of students from Watson Junior High volunteered to read to the students, along with district employees and community members. A huge THANK YOU to Mrs. Green for the sweet treats!!
WHS Grad Named "Women of Influence"
The Colorado Springs Business Journal names Jennifer Dodd, Women of Influence
Jennifer graduated in 2002 and was a guest speaker at graduation in 2012. #BelieveInWidefield
WHS Grad Awarded "Shining Star" by Governor
2014 graduate Katie Tomlinson received the Shining Star of Vocational Rehabilitation Award from the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment and its Division of Vocational Rehabilitation. Katie was recognized for making a positive and ongoing impact on quality of life of people with disabilities. Katie attended Pikes Peak Community College and will graduate from CSU Pueblo in May. She was a WHS recipient of the Kane Scholarship and Fountain Valley Scholars scholarship. #BelieveInWidefield
