Full Day Kindergarten
We are entering a historic year of education in the State of Utah by offering Full-Day Kindergarten. There are many questions or concerns parents have with their student being in full day kindergarten. There are also many benefits parents and teachers are looking forward to. Here is a glimpse of what to expect next year and what we are offering at Rees and throughout the district.
- At Rees, we will have 4 Full Day Kindergarten (FDK) classes and 2 half day classes.
- Currently we have plenty of room in FDK for students. We currently have more students wanting half day than what we are offering. If you selected the half day option, your student will either be in a half day class or a FDK class half the day
If you are on the fence about FDK, here is what you can expect:
- For all Kindergarten classes, the AM block will be 2 hours 30 minutes of Literacy and Math Core which includes Language Arts (phonemic awareness, phonics, comprehension, writing, small group literacy and reinforcement), Math and a 15 minute recess.
- The PM block will be 2 hours 45 minutes. Approximately 1 hour of Language Arts reinforcement and 30 minutes of Math Reinforcement.
- The remainder of the afternoon will include Social Studies, Science, and Arts Integration. Students will also eat lunch at school and have 2 recesses.
Other information you should know:
- Parents can switch ONE time to either FDK or Half-Day during Term 1 at any time if there is space available. For all other terms, parents will have to make changes at the end of a term.
- If we get more requests for either option, we may have to use a lottery system.
