Building our School of the Future
One of the most effective ways to promote student growth academically, behaviorally, and socially is through a partnership that bridges the school and home together. We'd like to share this weekly newsletter to keep families abreast of the amazing happenings at our school and pass on important information that will allow parents & students to maintain a positive connection with our school.

MRHS Students Featured in Cape Cod Art Association Exhibit: "Beginnings"
Each year the Cape Cod Art Association has a High School Exhibit called "Beginnings". Students participating from each high school on the Cape are given awards, and scholarships are also awarded to seniors who submit their portfolios. This year Monomoy Regional High School awards were given to Emma Starkweather, who won first place, Jennifer Keim, who won second place, and Sydney Potter who won an Honorable Mention. The exhibit runs through Sunday, March 22, and the reception is Friday, March 20th from 6-8 pm at the Cape Cod Art Association on Rte 6A in Barnstable.
Destination Imagination Club at MRHS Shines: State Finalists Caroline Davock & Lindsay Smith
This year we coached two teams in the Regional Tournament for Destination Imagination. One team chose a challenge that involved creating artwork, a visual illusion, and a skit that told a story about a character with a phobia. The members of that team were Meredith Rowe, Aiden Kotoski, Samantha Mahoney, and Cameron Carlson.
Our other team chose a challenge that involved building a "creature" (the girls chose a robot) that complete three different actions. They also had to develop a skit that incorporated their creature as well as some technical elements to represent the world in which they encounter their creature. That team was Caroline Davock and Lindsay Smith.
Both teams also had to perform an "instant challenge" where they are given just a few minutes to solve a challenge presented to them that they have not seen before. It's a test of the kids thinking on their feet and working together as a team under pressure. The instant challenge is confidential, so even the adults don't know exactly what they had to do. But both teams did really well in their challenges, and it was a real pleasure watching them develop as a team and working together.
Caroline and Lindsay won their challenge, and will be going on to the State Tournament being held at WPI in Worcester on Saturday, March 28th. From there, all winning teams go on to the Global Tournament, held this year in Tennessee. There, teams compete with teams from all over the world, including China, France, and South America.
Thank you DI Advisor Ms. Meaghan Smith for all your hard work!

Emily Fisette DAR Good Citizen Recipient (pictured with mom and dad)
- On Tuesday March 17, MRHS had more to celebrate than St. Patrick’s day. The Cape Cod chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) honored senior Emily Fisette with their Good Citizen award. Outstanding seniors from all of the Cape’s high schools were also honored. Honorees exemplify the qualities of dependability, service, leadership and patriotism. Emily was nominated by our faculty and then elected by the senior class to receive this recognition. Mr. Burkhead and Mrs. Callagy were happy to join the Fisette family for the festivities. We are all very proud of this outstanding scholar and young woman.

Financial Aid Information for Seniors: Our seniors are in the midst of eagerly receiving college acceptance and financial aid letters. And while it's an exciting season, it's also a time for lots of questions about financial aid, the college bill, and how to finance costs.
As such, MEFA – our state financial aid support agency - developed a special curriculum for families as they wind down their child’s senior year and look ahead to college.
The MEFA link of a pre-recorded Paying the College Bill webinar is available to help.
Their number one priority is to assist families through this exciting transitional time. If you have any questions or need additional information contact mefa.org or Monomoy RHS Guidance.
