Shark News
Tuesday, November 29, 2022
I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving break! We were so happy to see our Shark students back on campus this week. We have fun, exciting, activities planned as we quickly approach the end of our first semester of school. Please review the December calendar for fun dress-up days. Please join us on the dress-up days that work for your child(ren).
Happy Holidays,
Charlotte Gilder, Principal
Angels of Light
Thanks for your overwhelming response to Angels of Light! We have 100 families ready to hop onto the nice Greyhound charter buses on Thursday, December 1st at 6:00 p.m. to go see a Christmas program, a light dinner is served, and a special gift is given to the kids at the end of the night. Families usually get back at about 9:00 p.m.
It’s such a fun and rewarding way to get into the Holiday Spirit. It warms your heart! ♥
Winter Parties!
Due to construction and limited parking, we will limit the number of adult guests per student to ONE PARENT (GUARDIAN). No school-age children will be allowed to attend parties during the school day.
As a parent coming to campus for the Winter Party, we need you to pre-register with the form below. A hard copy will come home with your student Thursday December 1, 2022.

FLU SEASON
With flu season hitting early this year, the clinic staff wanted to provide you with some important information regarding staying healthy during this flu season.
To prevent widespread flu in the school, we recommend that your child stay home from
school if experiencing flu or cold symptoms. To decide whether to send your child to school,
please consider the following guidelines:
Keep your child at home for treatment and observation if he or she has any of these
symptoms:
· Fever‐greater than 100°F and your child should stay home until at least 24 hours after they no longer have a fever. This should be determined without the use of fever‐reducing medicines (any medicine that contains ibuprofen or acetaminophen).
· Vomiting (even once)
· Diarrhea
· Chills
· General malaise or feelings of fatigue, discomfort, weakness, or muscle aches
· Frequent cough
· Lots of nasal congestion with frequent blowing of nose
To help prevent the flu and other colds, teach your children good hygiene habits:
· Wash hands frequently
· Do not touch eyes, nose, or mouth
· Cover mouth and nose when sneezing or coughing. Using a paper tissue, throw it away and then wash hands
· Avoid close contact with people who are sick
It is recommended that everyone 6 months of age and older get a seasonal flu vaccine each year. Consult your family doctor for recommendations on which flu vaccine to get.

Birthday Treats
Birthday Treats:
Delivery to students of flowers, balloons, food (including birthday treats), and other such items are prohibited at school. Balloons, flowers, gifts or party favors can cause a disruption in the classroom. Birthday party invitations are not to be passed out at school.
KEYS MENTORING
We are searching for campus mentors!
The KEYS Mentoring program (Keep Encouraging Youth toward Success) has been so helpful to our students in Katy ISD. I'm sure you are aware that mentoring creates a positive impact in youth’s lives. They find more self-confidence, self-esteem, and are able to create big goals for themselves. Our goal is for every student who needs a mentor to have one. No waitlists, or students who go without because we are short. If you are open to mentoring or know someone who would love to mentor at Schmalz, please complete or share the application at the link below and be sure to choose Schmalz as your mentor campus. Likewise, if you would like your student to have a mentor, please contact one of the school counselors for more information.
