First Grade Behavior Incentives
Water Bottle Stickers - On the first day of school, each student got to pick a water bottle sticker to start with. Then each month, the students have the opportunity to earn a new water bottle sticker for having good EAGLE behavior. They also get a birthday sticker on the day that the class celebrates his/her birthday.
Desk Pets - Each student was given an animal eraser "Desk Pet" of their choice. The desk pets live in a small clear container that is housed in the corner of the students' desks. Students earn "Desk Pet Bucks" throughout the day for following our classroom rules. At the end of the week, they get to go to the “Pet Store” and spend their earnings on accessories for their desk pet such as food, toys, and other animal friends. They then get to take their desk pets out of their homes and play with them.

Illustrative Math in Third Grade
For the last two weeks 3rd grade has been working on graphing in math. We began with picture and bar graphs and have been practicing creating scaled bar graphs independently during centers. Students sort, count, then display their data in a graph using a scale of counting by 2's, 5's, or 10's. This practice has been helping us with skip counting and our beginning multiplication skills for our next unit in math.

Behavior Calendar
The Glidden Elementary is using a numbered behavior calendar system this year. They were designed to give students the opportunity to analyze and reflect on their classroom behavior. At the end of the day, students will put a number on the calendar that matches their behavior for the day. The teacher keeps track of reminders and behavior occurrences throughout the day and then has a private conversation with the student regarding their behavior and areas of improvement. Our hope is that the calendar will spark a conversation at home concerning behavior at school.
On the side of the calendar, is a number code explaining the expectations. All students will start on a “3 - Ready to Learn,” which is the expected outcome. At the end of the day, the teacher will have a conversation with each individual student about his/her behavior for the day. If he/she has had excellent behavior with little to no reminders, he/she will move up to a “4” for the day. If he/she has had too many reminders, he/she will move down to a “2.” If he/she has had undesirable behavior for the day, the child will receive a “1” for the day. In that case, the teacher will contact the parents to discuss the behavior.
Those students with 3s or 4s for the entire month, will be entered into a drawing for our monthly E.A.G.L.E. award, and all of them will get a special privilege of some sort such as an extra recess, extra play time, prize box selection, and/or technology time. Please keep in mind that we expect most of the students to receive a “3” for the day.
In the past, we used a color-coded behavior system. We are using a new system to help our students manage their emotions called Zones of Regulation. This system uses colors.
Because we don’t want to confuse the students and families we changed our behavior system coding.
