Roynon Raccoon Report

September, 2020

Volume IV, Edition 2

Roynon Families,

Thank you for all of your hard work in collaborating with us to get this school year off the ground!

We appreciate you and all you have done and continue to do to provide a safe place for your child to learn while in distance learning. Thank you also for coming to school every two weeks to pick up/drop off materials for your child. We feel this is very beneficial for our students. The next pick up is next week. The schedule is included in this newsletter.

At this time, Los Angeles County continues to be in the Widespread (Purple) tier which means we are not able to offer in person instruction for our general education students at this time. I will continue to communicate with you as circumstances change within our school/district.

We have several events happening in the next month or so. First of all, we have Parent Conferences for students in grades 1 - 5 scheduled for the week of September 28th - October 2nd. Fall conferences are required for every student at Roynon. (Kindergarten conferences are held in November.) Fall parent conferences give teachers the opportunity to share with parents the student's current progress and set learning goals for the school year. They are a chance for the teacher and parent to connect and collaborate for the benefit of the student. Please don't miss out on this very important meeting. We are striving for 100% participation from all of our Roynon parents/caregivers. Your child's teacher will be reaching out in the next two weeks to schedule a time with you and provide you with a Zoom link once the conference has been scheduled. Please note the schedule for parent conference week:

  • Monday, September 28th: Regular Schedule
  • Tuesday, September 29th: Regular Schedule
  • Wednesday, September 30th: Minimum Day - Instruction ends at 10:30am
  • Thursday, October 1st: Minimum Day - Instruction ends at 10:30am
  • Friday, October 2nd: Student Free Day (No school)

We are excited to announce that we have been able to schedule Fall Portraits for our students through our regular picture company, School Portraits. They will be here on October 15th & 16th to take pictures of our students for our yearbook. Please click on the link later in this newsletter to schedule your child's picture session. The portraits will be taken in our MPR, in a socially distanced setting. The guidelines for picture day include:

  • Only one parent/guardian will be allowed to accompany the student.
  • Masks are required for everyone.
  • Only one appointment necessary per family
  • Please arrive 5 minutes before your appointment time

We will have one door to enter and one door to exit, all along 8th street. All families MUST have an appointment. In addition, I am asking you to complete a quick yearbook survey, here! Thank you!

Our Roynon PTA is continuing to support our school, even in distance learning mode. They are hosting a virtual Scholastic Book Fair from September 21st - October 4th, as well as scheduling Family Food Days. The first family food day will be on September 16th.

Details regarding all of these events can be found in this newsletter. Please scroll thorough to the end, opening links as necessary.
