An Important Message from Supt. Rebecca A. Jenkins
Dear District 70 Families and Community:
Our hearts are with our students and families impacted by the horrific events unfolding and escalating in Israel and Gaza. As educators and caring members of our school community, we must come together to provide support and guidance to our students during this challenging time.
The physical and emotional safety of our students is our first priority. This week we have been ensuring that our students feel safe expressing their thoughts and concerns while engaging in meaningful discussions. Please remember our teachers, social workers, psychologists and principals are available to help your child(ren) while at school. In addition, the Libertyville Police Department is an amazing partner and will have a heightened presence in and around our schools.
With the upcoming weekend, when conversations about the Israel-Gaza Strip conflict may go deeper with family members, we are sharing some of the resources we gathered to guide compassionate talks.

More articles can be found on our website at d70schools, under Students Services, from Counseling Corner to How to Talk to Children About War.
There are reports across various news outlets of the intent to flood social media with images from Hamas of graphic violence in Israel and Gaza. We strongly recommend parents and caregivers restrict or very closely monitor the use of social media, especially on X (formerly Twitter), which has reduced filters for content shared on the platform. Even with platforms that have stronger filtering policies, violent content may still be shared.
We greatly appreciate your collaboration in helping us to create a safe and welcoming learning and working environment for our students. By coming together as a community, we can help our students navigate complex world events.
Thank you for your commitment to our students' well-being. Please reach out to your principal, social worker, or psychologist should you or your child need support! They stand ready.
Rebecca

D70 Shining Bright with Two Honors This Month
District 70 is honored to be linked to two awards this month on the state and national levels.
Congratulations to our school board for receiving the 2023-24 Governance Recognition Award from the Illinois Association of School Boards. This award recognizes excellence in school leadership. It's the third time our School Board has received this honor.
Congratulations to President Jennifer Khan, Vice President Travis McGhee, Secretary Nan Dahlke, and board members Angela Balanag, Brian Lawton, Wendy Schilling, and Steve Sticklen for their dedication.
We also are celebrating Pete Theis, our director of human resources, who has received the Personnel Administrator of the Year Award from the American Association of School Personnel Administrators. This national recognition follows his earlier honor as the 2023 Illinois Personnel Administrator of the Year by the Illinois Association of School Personnel Administrators.
Mr. Theis’ contributions, impact on education, change management skills, and creative personnel administration make him a deserving recipient.
Working on fall haiku poems. What fun.
