Summit Virtual Academy

Weekly Update - Week of May 22, 2023

Congratulations, Seniors!

Good afternoon, Blackhawks! This week, our seniors officially completed their k-12 educational careers. Congratulations to graduates and families! This is the culmination of 13 years of hard work and dedication. Many of our graduating Blackhawks are heading on to college and trade schools, some to the military/service and workforce. Whatever those future plans consist of, the Brandon School District is confident our graduates will do great things and positively impact their community and world. To celebrate the hard work and success of our graduates, this Sunday at 2pm will be our commencement ceremony on the Brandon High School football field. There is not limit to the number of guests allowed per graduate. Doors open at 1:00pn for families to take their seats in the football stadium. Graduates will enter in the main entrance of the building at 12:30.

As we head into May and the final four weeks of the school year, be sure students are continuing to make regular progress on courses and reach out to instructors when you are ready for your exams in order for them to be unlocked. As always, if you have any questions, please contact the office at 248-627-1820 for help.

As we approach the end of the year, it is time to plan for Summer School, if it is necessary for your student. Please see the details and link below in order to apply for BHS 2023 Summer School session this summer.

Have a great weekend, and Go Blackhawks!

Xello

Just a reminder that the state of Michigan requires that all students complete work on their Xello account each year. This is a requirement. Earlier in the year, we took time out to help Summit students work on this. If you did not complete your required Xello progress for the 2022/2023 school year by the time you complete spring NWEA testing, you may be asked to complete this once finished testing. If you have any questions regarding Xello, please contact Christine Hogarth at 248-627-1820 or chogarth@brandon.k12.mi.us.

Navigate 360

As part of the state of Michigan and district's initiative to address the social and emotional needs of our students, as described in detail in the letter issued by the school district. If you choose to have your student(s) participate in this same program or with this specific lesson through the weekly, 20-30 minute long interactive lessons, or if you have questions, please contact the office at 248-627-1820.

Reminder of Expectations

As we continue to progress through the year, here is what you can continue to expect:

  • Expect your student to work for roughly 45-60 minutes per day, per course
  • By now, you should have been reached out to by a counselor regarding your course progress. These will happen once a week. It is extremely important that you respond to communication. Please note that the student needs to respond and be in communication, not just the parent(s).
  • Your main point of contact for content specific questions is your course instructor. If you need help doing so, don't hesitate to reach out to us at 248-627-1820.

Parent/Student Resources

Here you will find links to resources to help parents and students. Those of you who worked with Edmentum last year may have noticed some subtle changes to the system, as courses are now listed as being Apex courses.
