I Can Be Thankful & Have Self-Control
This Sunday, preschoolers are learning that "I Feel Happy When I'm Thankful" from the story of Jehoshaphat in 2 Chronicles 19-20 while elementary kids are learning "When I Feel Angry, God Gives Me Self-Control" from the story of Nehemiah in Nehemiah 1-6.
Throughout this entire series, we'll be using STOP, LOOK, & LISTEN to learn about how the Lord wants to help us with our emotions.
STOP- to identify how you feel
- This week we're focusing specifically on the feelings of being happy or angry.
LOOK- at what's causing you to feel this way
LISTEN- to what God has to say about it
Each week of this series I want share some truth that may fight lies that might be feeding into emotions. This might be for you. It might be for you to share with a kid or parent on Sunday. Or maybe even both!
Truth We Can Remember When We're Feeling Happy or Angry
- Praise the Lord. Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever. Psalm 106:1
- I will give thanks to the LORD with my whole heart; I will recount all of your wonderful deeds. Psalm 9:1
- For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline. 2 Timothy 1:7
- But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Galatians 5:22-23
- A fool gives full vent to his anger, but a wise man keeps himself under control. Proverbs 29:11
- Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger- Ephesians 4:26
Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger - James 1:19
