Crafting PLE

The Art of Creating Personalized Learning Environments

JSGS Edition - March, 2016

Saying Goodbye to Tablets

Tablets will be taken up by the end of May. The exact dates that we will take them up at JSGS has not been decided, but all tablets will be collected by May 23rd. That means that they will not be available for EOG review. You also want to start thinking about moving all of your items in Playlist Builder elsewhere. Canvas is one option, but you can also set up a OneDrive Folder. Let me know if you'd like help with that.

Canvas LMS

Canvas is a Learning Management System. Other LMS's that you may be familiar with are Edmodo, Blackboard, and Moodle. Canvas is very similar to Moodle, but is a lot more user-friendly. We'll be learning more about Canvas at our March 19 PACE training.

New Device

The board approved Lenovo as our vendor for the new devices next year. These will be Windows-based devices, so no more worries about websites running flash! It will have a 360 degree screen, so it can be used in a variety of ways, including as a tablet.

Students Rock the Vote

"Civic literacy should not start when we turn 18. It should start now."

Get your students ready for the upcoming NC Primary while teaching them valuable reading skills with Newsela. If you've never checked out this awesome resource, you need to! Newsela teaches students to read non-fiction news articles critically. Every article is available in 5 different lexile levels.

Newsela is partnering with Rock the Vote to get students interested in the election. And it's not just for ELA. There are curriculum connections for almost every core and encore subject. Not sure how to connect it? I'm here to help!
