Articles of Confederation
How it started Shay's Rebellion
The Articles of Confederation
The Articles of Confederation was America's first form of government after declaring independence. There was existential need for it since they didn't have a government they needed one before anarchy broke out. The basic idea around the Articles of Confederation were that the states had more power than the national government. They did this because the feared that if the national government had too much power, then they would turn into another King Phillip. The only thing the national government could is declare war and ask the states for money, instead of taxing them. It didn't go too well.
How it caused Shay's Rebellion
Shay's Rebellion was a bunch of farmers who were in debt and lost their property to the government due to an economic depression, who took up arms to courts and shut them down to prevent foreclosure hearings from going on in Massachusetts. This eventually spread to other states. After this little incident, delegates from each state thought they needed a new form of government that could do more against anarchy and boom, the Constitution was born.
