Mr. B's Corner
We hope everyone had a restful four day weekend. The first trimester ends this week and next Monday, December 7, is a teacher workday. Trimester two starts Tuesday, December 8. Although we miss seeing our whole learning community together, we will be in Extended Flexible Learning (EFL), at least, through our Winter Break. At that time, district leadership, in partnership with MN Dept. of Health and Anoka County Dept. of Health, will reassess learning models. Please take some time as a family to discuss what worked well this term, and what may need tweaking for term two.
- Establish a routine to be ready to learn.
- Designate a quiet learning space for students where they can be productive, preferably not where they sleep.
- Make WebEx, Seesaw, Schoology and other tech resources easy to access. Write down codes and passwords for the work area.
- Take a break. Build exercise or refueling into the break. Adding physical movement throughout the day helps learning!
- Use a bucket or a box to store daily learning supplies.
- Limit distractions by turning off cell phones and notifications.
- Keep iPads charged.
- Move items containing personal info or things you wouldn’t want others to see out of the camera range.
- Complete school work during the week; not on weekends.
- Check in with the student, academically and emotionally.
- Communicate with teachers. Connect on any questions.
- Join an online study group for students to work together.
- Remind students that schedules might occasionally change, same as how we remain flexible when at school.
Now that we are in EFL for the foreseeable future, please share pics of what Extended Flexible Learning looks like at home.
As always, thanks for entrusting your child(ren) to Lighthouse School for Gifted and Insatiable Learners,
Free meal pick-up and community distribution
Spring Lake Park Schools will continue to support students’ nutritional needs. We will provide a bagged breakfast and lunch option to all children ages 1-18 at no cost.
We will be distributing free meals on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10 locations throughout the community. On Tuesdays, families will receive two-days’ worth of meals. On Thursdays, families will receive three-days’ worth of meals.
Students and families should visit the website for updated information and to find the interactive map of the 10 distribution locations.
Webex Meetings for Spanish-Speaking Families to Connect
As of last April, SLP has been hosting open WebEx meetings with families in Spanish. These take place every Tuesday from 6-7 p.m. and Saturday from 10-11 a.m. in Emily Byers-Ferrian's WebEx room. Any parent is welcome to participate; the purpose of these gatherings is to maintain a sense of community, exchange ideas and resources in support of students, and help one another stay informed.
