From the Principal:
It is hard to believe that October is here. I’m loving this fall weather. Friday (October 6, 2023) will complete our first nine weeks of school. Hard to believe we have finished a fourth of the school year. I hope you will read the information in this newsletter. This is one way we try to keep you updated on what’s going on and important dates.
Thank you to everyone that came out to our Parent Orientation and WIN night. We had a lot of positive feedback from the evening. Here are a few of the comments: A very informative evening, Great presentation, I like meeting (like this) with opportunity to ask questions is the best, Everything was explained very well, I felt welcome, It was good learning more about MAP testing, It had a lot of information about my child’s progress and was brief and concise.
We will hold another WIN night after the first of the year and the second benchmark has been given to our students.
October 2nd is School Custodian Appreciation Day. I want to start by thanking our janitorial team, Mr. Brock, Ms. Pam, and Mr. Mark. This team works extremely hard each and every day to make sure our building is clean and safe for both students and staff. We appreciate each member and the role they play.
As the weather gets cooler, I know there is a tendency for students to want to stay in the warm car as long as possible each morning during drop-off. We make sure our front drop-off area is supervised from 7:00 until 8:00 each morning. If students will exit their cars before getting to the very front spot, it will keep our morning car line running quicker and smoother. We know you have places to go, so we want you to be able to get in and out as quickly as possible. Please make sure your child has all their belongings ready before leaving home so they exit the car quickly and safely when arriving at school.
A text was sent last week letting you know that after Fall Break, ice cream will be $1. We hate to raise the price, but our cost has increased and we must pass along the cost to buy the ice cream.
I hope you have a restful, relaxing Fall Break. Fall Break will be Monday, October 9th through Friday, October 13. Students will return on Monday, October 16th and we will be starting our second nine weeks.

Counselor's Corner
Mrs. Kelly Wolfe, Battlefield Elementary 23/24 Teacher of the Year
Mrs. Kelly Wolfe serves as our school guidance counselor. Mrs. Kelly Wolfe has been an educator for twenty years and has been at Battlefield for nine years. Kelly has held the position of middle school math and science teacher, high school counselor and now an elementary counselor. She also holds the title of PBIS coach.
Kelly is married to Tony, a teacher at Saddle Ridge. She has one son, Jacob, who is a sophomore at Heritage High School and one daughter, Hannah, who is a sixth grader at Heritage Middle.
Here are the words used by her colleagues to describe Mrs. Wolfe: Gentle, Kind, Thoughtful, Loving, Dedicated, Patient, Caring, Empathetic, Passionate, Compassionate, Helpful, Hard Working, Committed, and Inspiring.
Dave Ramsey said: “True Leadership is servanthood. Put the interests of others at the center of your decisions.” Rita Pierson said: “Every child deserves a champion—an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection, and insists that they become the best that they can possibly be.” If these two quotes don’t describe Kelly, I don’t know what does. Mrs. Wolfe hates the spotlight and would rather be behind the scenes.
Congratulations on a well deserved honor.
Donut with Grown Ups
Mrs. Otting's Readopoly
Mrs. Otting's reading classes are using AR books they read to do a variety of reading activities while earning "money" to spend in the classroom store on prizes. As you can see, the students are loving their prizes.
Jacob King
Jacob attended BES during his 4th and 5th grade year. He was asked to come for Donut with Grown Up from a student at the daycare where he works. After visiting our media center, Jacob realized that his 5th grade AR poster hung in the media center. As you can see, Jacob was a track star when he was at BES. Jacob is currently pursuing a teaching degree. We are proud of Jacob and all his accomplishments. We Are Battlefield!
