Leonardo da Vinci

The "Renaissance Man"

Leonardo da Vinci

Leonardo da Vinci was born on April 15, 1452 in Vinci, Italy. He lived in Milan for the beginning of his life. Then he lived in Rome, Bologna and Venice for work. Later he moved to France during the final years of his life. Leonardo was educated in the studio of the renowned Floretine painter, Verrocchio. He is often known as the "Renaissance Man".

Lifestyle

Leonardo's lifestyle was being a painter, scientist and inventions. His life was very creative and very talented. He never married or had kids. A few very famous paintings he created are Mona Lisa and The Last Supper.

The Last Supper

This painting, The Last Supper was created in 1500. You can buy a print of it on The Metropolitan Museum of Art website. You can see it hung on the end wall of the refectory of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan. This painting was a new technique called tampera on panel. This is when you try to paint in layers, rather than a true fresco technique. It describes when Jesus Christ tells his apostles that one of them will betray him. It shows the apostles' emotions and actions about what Christ has told them. The Last Supper symbolizes humanism because it portrays an image where Jesus is shown in a regular human form where he does great things for his people.

My Thoughts

I find this piece so interesting because it is history of my faith and religion. It shows the reactions of people who loved Jesus, like me.
