Week 5, Term 4 Newsletter
Governance and leadership
Most schools in New Zealand have a governance board known as the Board of Trustees. This group is responsible for the overall direction and strategic planning of a school, providing the way forward for the Principal and his/her team to implement. One of the key roles within the Board is the Chairperson. This person is responsible for chairing and organising each meeting, setting the agenda and kaupapa, meeting regularly with the Principal, being the voice of the Board in most cases.
Over the last 8 years, Mrs. Karena Hita has been instrumental in her role on the Board. For the majority of her time on the Board, Karena has been the Chair . . . and she has done a great job at it!
Karena is passionate about this school and more so for the things of the Lord. She has helped ensure that this ship continues to sail despite the storms that life often throws up. She has been faithful to her duty and call and, as of last Monday, she handed the reins of Chair-ship to another . . .
Before I korero about our new Chair I want to acknowledge and thank Karena for her many years of service and leadership - and those two words go hand in hand. I want to acknowledge her family and the many, many hours that she was with us at Board meetings. I want to thank her for her patience, integrity, diligence, steadfastness, determination, stability, faith and heart. Whilst she will continue in her role as Board member, I want to thank her for being a superb Chair and in doing so, ensuring that our ship sailed well.

Welcome and congratulations to our new Board Chair, Juliet Mclean!
Juliet is an experienced Board member, having been a Chair at another local school also. A mother of 2 students here at Abundant Life, Juliet brings a wealth of experience and heart to the role. Her input at our Board meeting has been measured and considered and I am looking forward to working alongside her as we sail on into the future. Thank you Juliet for standing and taking up the role as Chair - we are 100% behind you.

Meet the Team - Ruth Arona - Teacher Aide & Reliever
Kia ora Abundant Life whanau,
My name is Ruth Arona, and I am married to my amazing husband Ilai Arona. I was born and bred here in Kaitaia and attended KALS for 8 years of my schooling, where I had the honour of leading and serving our school as head girl in 2018. Kaitaia Abundant Life School has been a huge part of my life, and the values of faith, excellence, and whanaungatanga have been a successful and strong foundation for me. I am currently working here as a secondary teacher aide and relief teacher. While working at our kura I am also studying at Massey University via distance learning, completing a Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in education. I absolutely love working with tamariki and I am so happy to be on the journey of fulfilling my goal to become a qualified teacher.
Verse of encouragement:
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6–7 (NIV)
